your typical 1 ton XJ build thread

well since I can't work on my jeep, I've been helping my buddy with his wrangler. feeling better about my welds so I wanted to share. whaddayathink?

all in all a custom 4 link wasn't too difficult. and it netted him a 6" total stretch. can't wait to see his rig on the trail next to mine!

That's a nice "stack of dimes". Is that mig? I weld a little here and there for work (and the xj) but I usually run inner shield and hit it with a grinder. Mostly because I weld on farm equipment type stuff

6.5" frame separation
8" axle separation
upper length: 29"
lower length: 31"

1.25 heims everywhere except the frame side lower links. I used bushings

thinking about using 3/4x3/4 heims for my panhard

don't worry. this is no where near ride height. has to come down about 4"
I'm digging how narrow it is

go to 7/8 hiems on the track bar.

Jeep is looking awesome man. What kind of tires did you order?

awesome build. I have been following it from the beginning. Let me know how you like westtexasoffroad gear box and ram. Heard from a few the ram leaking after a few uses but others have been successful.

Nice welds to. good penetration and a consistent pattern not wondering either which is good for welding on tube. What 220 mig are you using? 75/25?

I love the front 60 man that thing is awesome. The build is awesome Jake .

thank you. I already have the ram (robert threw that in too) and it looks fine. still gonna run it. I'm sure it will be fine, but I might throw it all out next year and order a full kit from PSC if I don't like it.

I have a surprising lack of knowledge about welders. I don't own one. I just use whatever my buddy has in their garage/shop. miller, lincoln, hobart, harbor freight all seem about the same to me

this is my buddies welder (guy with the 4 link wrangler above). I love this welder. I think it's perfect for a garage built jeep. the auto set is awesome

stupid jeep. I put it at ride height today on the 4.5" coils and it sits way to far forward. I don't know how Robert was running these coil buckets but they're almost angled forward. so it's time to shorten the links 2" and order 6.5" progressive coils.

you guys all make it look so easy.

on a good note. chad started building me a bumper while I was dicking around with frame plates and track bar mount. it's coming out great! got rear bumper materials too to re-do the leaf springs.
bogus weekend anyhow. happy holidays everyone :smoker:

I was at 7" lift.
The lowers are angled back and more flat so u might need shorter arms.

Looking good.

I have currie progressive coils on my xj. I think savvy off-road is the only distributor of the currie ones. They are marketed for tj so just subtract an inch for an xj

Deaver or pac spring.

how about these? looks like they're affordable. 250lb spring rate 6" coils. I'm already rubbing the track bar mount with my 4.5" RE coils. anyone have a measurement of the outside diameter of those coils? the PACs are 4" OD

I can put in an order for these right now. I think the guy with my tires is bailing this weekend I'll have to try again next sunday so I have a couple extra bucks. any thoughts on heims all around suspension?
