GUNS & AMMO

Looks very....... utilitarian.

I also like the trigger-finger mag release lever..... gonna have to look into one of those.

SO you saying it is more functional looking than "beautiful?"
It is like a JEEP, designed to be scratched up, used, and get real dirty, that is were it is "beautiful."

Trigger-finger mag release lever??? Not actual a mag release, bolt release, so I can use just the trigger finger to release the bolt on a mag change. Can speed up getting back to action faster. I actually like it over the Magpul BAD lever as it has 3 screws securing it to the bolt release. It is made by Phase 5 Tactical and goes for $25.

That thing looks bad! Curiously, why are the mags numbered?

So, I came across a Bushnell Sportsman 4-12x40 for cheap on clearance. My plan was to mount this on my .50 muzzleloader. It's a CVA Buckhorn that uses a 209 primer and I generally load 150gr of pyrodex and (IIRC) 295gr slugs. The scope manual/specs say it's shock proof. Anybody have any experience in knowing if it will it hold up to the rigors of the muzzleloader?

My wife just bought me my birthday present. It's a Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader 12ga. Nothing fancy yet, just the standard pistol grip, M4 style stock, and 18" barrel. We also got a box of #1 buckshot to keep in it while at the house and a box of target load shells so we can play around.

I actually saw others do it, never asked why but it hit me one day in an epiphany, realized it was brilliant. (1) I will have a better visual when inventoring the mags, (2) failing mags are the number one cause of misfeeding so by numbering when one fails me at the range I just remember it was number "3" and replace instead of accidentally mixing it back in and guess which one it was . (3) I can load different ammo in mags and keep track of them by the numbers.

4: It's tacticool.

5: any reson to use more FDE spray paint is a good reason (although the most appropriate camo in Colorado is now charcoal :bawl:)

6: Good parenting! He can use them to teach his kids to do math!

:laugh3: Yeah I guess mall ninja's will find it tacitcool but where I used $4 spray paint and $2 stencils they would have them airbrushed with little skulls or dragons or something in a tribal fashion. I was going for function over form.

My oldest already says "Thats a cool one daddy." He can count to 60 now, I don't have that many PMAGS....................BTW Castle you were suppose to come over and play Angry Birds with him, he is upset with you now.

La Rue Tactical has "URBAN DARK EARTH" now............. not charcoal but close. :conceited

.................making light of a bad situation, this year is hell for Colorado and its residence.

This makes a lot of sense. As do the subsequent reasons...

Tacticool made me snicker. Anything tacticool is worth it.

Heh heh.......Mag release, oops. I did mean bolt release....... things blend when I'm tired at work...... :looney:

y'all is a bunch of idiots. all this "keep it simple and lite" BS is annoying. whatever though, i've almost been hitting the gym long enough to be able to take my new rifle to the range. and once I actually take it out, you'll be soooo jeally of it. (and then i'll steal your girlfriend too.)

Hey, you work three 12hr shifts, you are forgiven. :)

They have a ambi mag release but it is in an awkward place and interferes with the extended bolt release.

You ever take the Mini -14 out yet? If you ever get bored of it me first dibs back right?

That is kind of a scary statement right there.

If you have any NFA (National Firearms Act) weapons (Short barrel rifle, Short barrel shotgun, Any Other Weapon, or silencer) I am hoping all the proper paper work and approved tax stamp was done before the "maybe" fall under NFA laws was done. :shhh: (10 years in jail and $10,000 fine wont be fun.)

NFA is Federal, if done properly they are legal in any state other than socialist states who go against the firearm laws and don't allow NFA weapons in their state. If you move an approved NFA weapon you must notify the ATF.

Colorado is lax, only the city of Denver has magazine limit bans and doesnt like CCW.

You should be good in any other part.

nothing like that, just a old colt .45 butterfly and a few others that california tried to say fell under nfa laws. but that state always has something up there A** when it comes to anything that shoots something bigger then a pellet.

I tried a few months back when I met my pops in Ft. Collins at a gun range...... the rifle ranges were shut down for repairs. But it worked out for both me and the gun shop........ I ended up buying a new duty gun. Killer price on an XDm .40 cal with tac light.

Yeah, I suppose you could have it back someday........ but not until I get to shoot it first!!! ;)

So, I'm starting to get down to the nitty-gritty on the planning of my AR/M4 build. I want to use a Spike's tactical lower and 2 uppers. I want a ~14" 5.56 upper with a gas piston system for the zombies and a DGI 20" upper in some larger caliber for long(er) range hunting. Nothing more than say...250yds or so.

So my main questions are what calibers are going to be able to use the same lower as 5.56? And which would be the best for hunting? 300 Blackout is the only round I have learned is compatible with all the 5.56 stuff, but I'm sure there are others out there.

You can run a whole lot.

9mm, 5.7, .50 Beowolf whatever you can find that's the same length or shorter than a 5.56 round really. (plus one could run single shot larger, such as .50BMG).

.308 requires a stretched lower in the AR-10 style.

I knew the .308 had a different lower... .50 for ~$2000!?! I think I may have to sign up for that somewhere down the road!

I didn't search long, but couldn't find much info on the Beowolf. 5.7 seems like it's really not up to the challenge quite like the .300 Blackout. At this point I guess I'm planning on that for the other upper.
