Frame work

So 99 2dr, Issue I am having is about a year ago I bounced my jeep off of a guardrail and cracked the frame between my rear and mid frame stiffeners, right where the front bolt is for the leaf spring. the jeep had sat and the spot ended up rusting between the two. I planned on cutting out the bad section and using some 1/8" thick c channel, notched so it will bend and sit inside the frame rail. stitch and plug weld it in, then plate the outside of it and tie the frame stiffeners together. I figured I would do the same the other side so they were equally as strong. With this being said, I have shock towers in the rear and eventually planned on 4 linking the rear with coil overs, would this be a good time to go ahead and swap that out and just not worry about the leaf spring mounts? Any other suggestions on the repair?
