Why won't you do trail maintenance?

Most of the time I'm either working, out of town, or both.

It would be nice to work out some sort of carpool system with other members local to me. My jeep doesn't get terrible mileage when it's running :roflmao: I'd gladly split the cost of fuel with some other members, but the $$ it would cost to do it on my own makes it extremely difficult.

If you want to commute post up and ask. Don't expect others to do all the work for you. Many times we offer, others we don't since people don't take us up on it.

I appreciate volunteer work in other areas and am in no way trying to discount that. Open desert areas don't have established AAT programs so we can't officially adopt them. I'm specifically referring to our existing SBNF AAT relationship, both maintenance days and meetings. I'm also mostly targeting those folks who have never shown up at any AAT-related event right now.

I understand the hardship but some folks have been pushing nine years without ever showing up to anything, even when they were at SoCal Fest and are still on the mountain. I am just disappointed that we are one of the largest clubs in the program and have such little activity.

2N49 is going to require a lot of work, please do your part and help out.

I was at my daughter's graduation from Cal Berkeley this weekend. The next maintenance day that I am able to make it to, I definitely will.

I was attending the meetings every session for several years, but since i have been absent from here I haven't been reminded of them. 99.9% of my camping/wheeling is in the desert not the mountains. That being said, I spend several hours (up to several days) every trip I go out cleaning up the desert leaving it better than I found it.
I have been in the desert my entire life (44 yrs and counting) and was taught tread lightly before I could even walk or talk, and have passed it on to all I know and to my son who will no doubt pass it to his family and friends.
I understand this chapter has it's trails in the mountains and is rightfully proud of them, but trail maintenance is important everywhere. The fact that enough people aren't actively involved in the trails of this chapter doesn't mean that they are not active in helping to maintain all our other open land in this state to keep them all open.

So, I apologize to the management of NAXJA So Cal that I do not attend the trail maintenance trips, but the areas I visit regularly are the ones I help maintain and need my help just as much as any other trails. They are very important to me and my family's heritage and are also more convenient for me to visit. If NAXJA So Cal adopted some desert lands then I guess I would be able to officially contribute to the cause, until then I will go on quietly doing my part in my favorite areas to make them cleaner and stay open for future generations.

Thanks for reading.

Over at EXPO, they combine the two... Show up for a run and do a desert clean-up as well. And everyone must participate with the exception of the handicapped...

Last one I went to we gathered 50 bags of trash and filled a small trailer with the larger bits of junk.

i do work on 5S15 and 6S13 about every other month. even if its just taking a bunch of trash bags and picking up trash its something.

Yeah it hasnt been up to par lately. Ill have it checked out as soon as i have some free time. I dont know anything about trails and such. the only ones i have visited is where i cut my fire wood at and i was just wondering if that is where the aat location is. if so its not very far from me. Maybe 15- 20 min tops. I think one way to get more attention to the aat program would be to post up in the general so cal board instead of putting it in the aat section. When i loom in there i think "work". I avoid if possible. Just being honest.

I havent done squat with NAXJA lately because my wife has Fibromyalgia. That means I take my kids to school, work in my office for 10-11 hours a day and then come home and do laundry, dishes, bath my kids put em to bed, make their lunches, do more work go to bed and repeat. Most of the time my weekends are shot since i take gianna to her skate classes and lessons.

Agreed.

Josh, sorry to hear. I suffer from gout, and while not the same, I understand what chronic pain is. Hopefully she and you can pull through this. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Being out east in the low desert I help out around here... and have been to a few AAT work days... especially the first few... But as many I too seem to be on the busy side (damn kids)... the XJ needs a little love...
For those who can't make it to the "scheduled event" I believe if you run one of the adopted trails and do a bit of maint. (trash or debris) then let Stephan know... I believe we still get credit & can contribute in at least a minor way... I've done this a couple times...
I remeber seeing MudButt out in the desert a few years ago at the Evpo camp out as I did a driveby and it was cool to see what they did out there...

So THANKS !!! to Stephan for all he does...

OK !!! Geoff too... the goofball...

So why won't you attend?

There's a lot of ground between "don't attend" and "won't attend".

I for one haven't attended lately because its been a schedule conflict each time, with the conflicting event taking higher priority. If the schedule worked out differently I'd be there.

I will admit though that trying to guilt me into attending vs just asking lessens my interest in showing up. Jerk.

How bout revamp a maintenance day, rename it, restructure it, etc?

Family Trail Run, Meet and Greet, Frisbee Toss and trail cleanup.
FREE LUNCH!

I would bring burgers and a grill.

The guilt trip will still veer people away.

I do like burgers...

We had burgers at the last one, it was advertised such.

We've had them posted in the main forum. It was still ignored. If you think AAT is work and you avoid work that is a problem you need to overcome. Apathy toward maintaining trails / cleaning up areas helps close trails.

There you go again with the tripping of ze guilt.

So when's the next Adopt a trail? Less complaining, more info, jerk.

IF you're feeling guilty you know you're in the wrong. :flipoff:

Next AAT event is the meeting on Wednesday, June 19. 7:00 PM, Sizzler in Corona. I'd love to see a large gathering there. Plus you get to eat at Sizzler, that stuff is almost edible!

Work day - Not scheduled at this time. Keep watching.
