What do you have to do before the Crawl?

I used to do it when I started my shop, but after 10 or so times dumping perfectly clean gear oil out, I decided it probably isn't needed. I just put Mobil 1 in them & send them on their way.

I've always wondered if it was just a waste of diff oil to change it after the "break in" period. They don't do that on new trucks do they?

I know BMW does on their M cars, they get all new fluids at their 1000 mile service...

I've never done a 500 mile break in on gears. My buddy here has done 1000s and doesn't recommend them. My point to it all is that car manufactures don't change them as previously mentioned.

Obviously it doesn't hurt, but I don't think it's needed. In this hobby we will likely change it at some point due to the wheeling conditions we take our vehicles through anyway.

mac 'mine usually have water in them anyways' gyvr

Yeah, I agree. However, seeing as this is the first set of gears i've done, I don't mind spending a few bucks on some oil to change it again so that I can have a peek inside and make sure everbody's playing nice. Would hate to set off for a 5 hour journey and do an abrupt nose stand going down the highway because I didn't check it before I left...

If that is a possibility, strap a go-pro to the Jeep so we can watch it later.
