Re: Official September 2011 ROTM submission thread
Ok, since it doesn't have to be an XJ I'll be different. This jeep is much less expedition setup than my XJ, but I've entered my XJ a few times before so it's time to give this one a chance. I still use it in expedition style trips, I just rough it a little more.
'79 CJ5, mostly stock AMC 304, stock narrow track axles (d30, amc20), 3 speed T15, dana 300 t case. Factory limited slip rear
At the time of this picture, SOA lift. Currently has 4" lift YJ springs, spring under, with 1" lift shackles.
Bikini top and Bestop soft top.
At the time of these pictures it was 36" Parnelli Dirt Grips on 16x10 steel beadlocks. Currently has 33" TRXUS MTs on 17x9 poison spyder beadlocks. 1.25" wheel spacers.
CB Radio, Cassette Deck with AM/FM
Dual Exhaust w/ sidepipes
14" electric fan in front of radiator to help with cooling
high flow water pump (added after this trip)
redneck rigged overflow bottle (factory didn't have one)
Bolted on metal tool boxes on wheel wells
Roll bar expanded with a-pillars and roof halo, wouldn't really call it a full cage though.
CHROME GRILL!!!
Last year took a 2 night trip by myself out to Gold Butte and Devils Cove. Drove up to Mesquite and back down on the far side of Lake Mead. Camped both nights on Devils Cove Road, first night near the top in the pines, second night down by the cove. Explored a lot of the roads in the area, totaled over 100 miles off the pavement, I was very glad I'd taken an extra 2 jerry cans.
One of several corrals in the area, only one I've ever seen with a windmill
Gold Butte. Well, all that's left of it.
This end of Lake Mead is rather dry. I heard the water's gone up a lot this year, I need to go back to this area and check it out.
