Jeep Picnic Saturday August 10th, on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay (San Diego)

The SoCalXJ group has a picnic every year down on Fiesta Island in San Diego, and it's been a merged event with NAXJA for years.

I am NOT going down really early to try to hold a stretch of sand for everyone (like I often have) unless someone else volunteers to be there as well. But I'll probably get there fairly early. There's a lot of flat hardpacked sand area to park on. But try to get there "earlyish" as it's a popular spot for groups to gather

Saturday August 10th, anytime b/w 6am & 10pm

West shore of Fiesta Island, where the "shortcut" comes across from the east side... roughly "1500 Fiesta Island Rd, San Diego 92109", coordinates 32.78025 -117.222500 aka 32*46'48.9"N 117*32'21.0"W

Bring your rig if you want, or whatever gets you there!!

Bring your own food & beverages; if you're so inclined, bring something to share. Bring firewood if you plan to be there past dark. You get a great view of the Sea World Fireworks late in the evening.

No glass or alcohol allowed on the beach per SDPD rules, but people do get creative sometimes. Just don't get visibly stupid.

Bring chairs, shade, hats, sunscreen, water toys, beach toys, bikes, firewood, well behaved dogs (Fiesta Island is an OFFLEASH beach, though there's also a dog park just south of where we hang out). You know, beach stuff :)

You can launch watercraft from the sand on Fiesta Island

Be courteous--give space to those wanting to wear masks. I don't tend to wear one at the beach when there's room around me. But I'm happy to put one on to talk to those who do, and I'm back to hugging those who are comfortable doing so. There's plenty of space to spread out and to sit around and socialize.

Mark your calendars now, it's always a good time!!

If you get lost or can't find us for some reason, I can be reached at six19 six 5 4 nine 7 five 8.

Also for those new to Fiesta Island or who have forgotten, the perimeter road is pretty flat and is great for biking, walking, running, skating/blading, etc...

I have all the best intentions of being there. I say that without checking my calendar, or in particular, 🤐the wife's.🤣

Just shoot me now. I'll see what kind of juggling I can do. I have tickets for Grand Funk Railroad that evening. Never fails.

this is coming up in less than 2 weeks, folks! hope to see you down there, it's always a good time!

Aly and I will be there about noon, will have Kayaks, an ezup, and probably some food.

excellent!

this is tomorrow, folks! I will be down there sometime around 10:00, hopefully. look for a 2024 white Corolla with LMU in the license plate, with the trunk facing towards the water and the nose of the car towards the road

looks like I will actually be on the island right around 10:00 a.m. . see you down there!

okay, I am here. there is some event that has cars parking all along the street edge of the sand. get around them somehow. my Corolla is parked right near the wooden telephone post that you can see right as you reach the end of the cut off to this side of the island. we will just have to park where we can, but in about the same basic area.

Leaving meow, lottle bit of traffic, should be there before 1 still

excellent, we are right at the end of the cut off. my white Corolla is very close to the wooden upright pole, and Kris's Wrangler with an awning & rooftop tent is just south/left of that

Good times, good people. Really nice time, water was great in the Kayaks, good food, very nice weather.

Thanks Carol for keeping this going every year!

And you didn't get busted by the city? How big was the crowd?

Busted for?

Our group was an mj, two xjs, a wrangler, a dodge, a corolla, and a brz. Might be missing one? People...maybe 12?

Peter, Brendan, Marley, MikeG, Kris+4, Marc+3, Andy & Taylor, CharlesB, JohnX, Aly, Leon, Carol... no grief from City or police. Fantastic weather & great company, good picnicking too!

Small but mighty crowd 💕
