Hello all,

I am happy to start this thread early in the year to help people get ready for Reno Fest which will vary from the usual rock crawling trails we usually do.

This year Reno Fest will be an overland-style trip to High Rock Canyon in Northern Nevada.

Event is Memorial Day weekend from Friday May 23rd to Monday May 26th.

Itinerary
High Rock Canyon is our destination, but getting there will be half of the experience! We will visit some cool sites around Pyramid Lake and Winnemucca Dry Lake including Indian caves, mines, the Black Rock Desert and California Trail historical sites. We will not be posting a detailed itinerary including the location of the meeting spot (staging area) in this public thread as this location is on private property where the owner is letting us park trailers and tow rigs if needed. This information will be shared privately as we get closer to the event.
For the purpose of this thread, we plan on meeting / departing before noon on Friday. We plan to return around noon on Monday.
It is estimated that round trip will be approximately 350 miles.

Vehicle Requirements
- Vehicle should be street legal and highway capable (within reason) as sections of this trip will involve on-pavement highway travel.
- Vehicle must be in good working condition with no known mechanical issues that could become problems miles away from service.
- Minimum 31" off-road tires. All-terrain tires will be great. Tires must be in good condition (no dry-rot, unsafe sidewall patches, etc) and have adequate tread.
- A full size spare or appropriate tire repair kit for those rigs where carrying a large spare is not possible.
- Approved tow points front and rear.
- Tow strap without hooks.
- Visibly charged fire extinguisher (BC or ABC)
- First aid kit
- Safety belts for driver and any current passenger
- CB or FRS/ham radio. (Most of us use FRS radios on channel 151.775)
- Transfer case skid plate and gas tank skid plate are highly recommended.
- Air compressor or air tank for filling tires highly recommended.
- Spare parts, particularly for likely points of failure unique to your rig. Examples are axle shafts, unit bearings, pitman arm, track bar bolts, etc. Due to the distance we will be traveling, having one of nearly everything is a good idea but can be shared among the group in order to keep the weight down. Not everyone needs to bring a spare starter or fuel pump but having one in the group will do. Other items that can be split up among the group could include radiator hoses, alternator, hi-lift jacks, portable welders, impact tools and spare fluids. As long as we have one of these items we will be prepared. This trip won't have difficult trails in terms of rock-crawling but can have different challenges. For example, miles of wash-board roads can vibrate things apart, as has happened to us in the past. We will likely have at least one mud hole or water to drive through. Our goal is to hope for the best and plan for the worst, and everyone makes it back safely.

Other Requirements
Firewood - depending on group size, everyone is expected to bring one or two bundles of firewood (like the $7 bundles at Maverick or grocery store). This will allow us to have a campfire each evening.
Gas - Having extra gas on hand is highly recommended, and/or you will be probably have to refill in Gerlach (expensive). At a minimum, start with a full tank.
Water - Carry enough water for your uses for a 3-day camping trip.
Food - Carry enough food for a 3-day trip. We might decide to do one meal as a pot-luck.
Camping / cooking equipment according to your needs.

If there are any questions to any of the above requirements, please feel free to ask here or via PM and we can answer any questions. We can narrow down details on who will carry what closer to the event.
