Swamp Lake trip July 26-28 2013

Here's some info and directions.

We're going to camp at our usual spot near Dinky Creek on Thurs night, directions below. We'll leave from the Dinky ranger station at 8:30. We're going to run the trail from the top down this year, so we'll be going up Rock Creek Rd past the entrance to the Bald Mtn trail. The Swamp Lake trail gate is right next to the parking lot for the Dinky Lakes trailhead for hiking trails. The trail is good both directions, it will be a little longer going in on Fri and a little shorter going out on Sunday.

Here's directions. Take Hwy 168 from Fresno east about an hour to Shaver Lake. As you are coming into the town of Shaver Lake make a right turn onto Dinky Creek Rd, where there is a sign saying Wishon and Courtright Reservoirs. Go about 12-15 miles on Dinky Creek Rd and look for another sign saying Wishon and Courtright Reservoirs, and make a right turn at the sign onto McKinley Grove Rd. You'll immediately cross the bridge over Dinky Creek then go about a 1/4 mile and you'll see two roads that go to the left, one cuts back sharply and goes to Camp Fresno, and the other one is 10S36, make a left turn onto 10S36 and immediately turn into the trees on the right, which will be our camp. This is no fee camping, and there is room for parking with trailers. There are johns at the ranger station and ice and even breakfast at the Dinky Creek store, which are both on Dinky Creek Rd past where we turn to go to our camp spot. If you're driving the wheeling rig it's best to gas up in Prather. There are also places to eat and a grocery store in Prather if you need them Thurs on the drive up.

We're leaving for the trail Fri morning at 8:30. See you there.

Couple of days away.

151.775 is the 2 meter channel we'll be on

I would also suggest using a block of ice in the chests as the central valley can get pretty warm.

Yes, block ice definitely works better and lasts longer than crushed ice. Take plenty of water. Bring your bathing suit.
We'll do pot luck dinner on Sat evening. We'll eat whatever you bring.

Barring work I am in...

Installed a front recovery point over the weekend. Doing some maintenance right now.

Gathering up my gear.

Got my fishing pole and tackle.

Even had time to make a crawfish trap...

Hopefully leaving the OC around noon on Thursday...

EDIT

151.820 is the new channel....evidently the fire department uses the other proposed number

Success! I have successfully loaded more crap in my Jeep than last year! Awesome!

I honestly wouldn't have believed that to be possible!

Wife talked me into taking my youngest daughter too... Now there will be five of us loaded into my heep! Fingers crossed...

Roll across a scale on your way :D

At least the extra clothes in the tires would help lower the COG. I have pictures (at least in my mind) of the trip out of Swamp last year. One side of the that Jeep was extremely light while climbing that one hill!

I fill 1 gallon, and 2 liter jugs with water and freeze. Lasts longer than crushed ice and doesn't get the food soggy. Helps the crushed ice last longer if put in the drinks cooler too.

I plug my ARB fridge/freezer on
