i got it back from the shop. it runs really well. the check engine light is on for the TPS, but its under warranty from auto zone so i just picked up a new one.
Sounds pretty good Brendon. Glad to hear it was something simple & under warranty. I hope the shop didn't rape you too bad. I don't blame ya for taking it to a shop. Sounded like you were under the gun to get it running, since your other transportation was leaving town.
Good feeling hearing it run after all the work isn't it. I'll be honest with you I was in the same boat as you. Never pulled a motor but I did all the minor stuff. What I passed along too you was stuff I learned building my motor. Let it get broken in before you get on it too hard and make sure you use the breakin additive on the 500 mile oil change also.
just took it out for a drive. it is quick. lots of top end torque. from 40 - 70mph is extremely quick. great throttle response and a great very deep throaty sound. i still need to go back and re change the oil and also replace the water in the radiator with coolant
It's a beautiful thing isn't it. Mine is a stick so a good hard 1-2 shift I can feel it squat and try and pull the front tire. I know it sounds crazy but the old worn out rear end transfers weight like crazy.
Now here's what you do go easy on it for 1000 miles or so. Don't worry it won't take long. Once it's broke in find a tunnel or low overpass and fly through it full throttle with it running about 4K RPM.
I don't feel like rereading a thread but what muffler are you running. And it looks like 2.5" pipe or is that just a tip or pipe from muffler? FWIW I'm running mine with a stock 96ish exhaust header and no cat (I know bad Parakeet bad) and a 40 series flowmaster. You can barely hear it at idle but it gets noticeable at 3000 RPM.
You may have said this also but do you know any of the specs on the motor. Compression, cam used, head used, etc?
here's the link to all the materials used, as for the head, i believe he uses one from a similar year. i know he gave me a 0331 head but he told me it was from a newer wrangler and said that they resolved the head cracking issues in that year.
oh yeah as for the exhaust, its a banks header, stock downpipe, no cat (yes i know its bad, but i do atleast have two precats on the downpipe), flowmaster 40, 2.5" pipe, the tip is a 3" flavor
