GUNS & AMMO

So there is nothing tactical about a military issue handgun then?

How about the MP5 or Uzi? I guess those aren't tactical either.

Tactical? Nah. Tacticool? Sure.

And I think everyone knows that the 9 being issued as a mil calibre wasn't the best decision ever. The Army is afterall switching to M&P 40s.

9mm has its place. Big factors for me having a 9 are in affordability and poking holes in paper. I have an XD9 myself and love it..... but you can see clearly how I feel about the round in my choice of duty weapon.

I was just giving Matt a hard time.

Since when were we getting M&P 40's? I haven't heard anything. I have read that the USMC recently placed an order for a bunch of 1911's. I have heard nothing of a new pistol for the Army.

Pistols aren't even highly used by the Army except in MP units. Other than that only officers and high ranking NCO's carry pistols. SOCOM forces typically carry non-standard weapons but the M9 is still the standard issue item. I have read that the SEALS are now using a SIG 9mm, but still a 9mm.

I personally don't like the .40. For me its either 9mm or .45ACP in a pistol. 9mm for ability to typically hold more ammo and .45 for its added punch. That said, I am fully confident in my FNP-9 to kill a person and quickly. I carry Federal Hydro-shocks in it for that purpose. When it comes down to it, IMHO the type of bullet is more important than the caliber. Regardless of the caliber handgun the Army may or may not go to its still going to be firing FMJ's and therefore will have a compromised ability to kill on impact.

I have only shot a few .40's but I've not liked any of them, and quite frankly I don't see how a bullet .045" bigger in diamet is going to be so superior. Its firing slower than the 9mm and has barely any extra mass. If you want to step up to a "big boy" caliber than just man up and get a .45

I think you only have to be 18 to have a pistol in your possession. Wasn't that long ago ranch kids carried their .22 rifles to school.

How's that work for kids in shooting contests......
my bro and sis both shoot pistols and are both under 17.....

I'm sure its an adult supervision thing. More to the point though, how long are you going to be 17? I swear you've been 17 for 3yrs now. :D

You've got him confused with Troy-Scout....

Ive been told by 2 sources this month that Smith & Wesson got the new contract and that the Army is getting the M&P 40. It's also a rumor I had heard quite a while back.

The projectile does play a huge role and I wont argue that the hydrashock doesnt rip people to pieces. I'm sure your FNP 9 can kill someone quickly if you put a hole in the right place or if you put enough holes in them... realistically a 22 could do the same.

And my duty gun is a .45.

I used to think like you about 9MM but not anymore. The new ammo out is pretty brutal. I went from carrying a .45 every day to a 9MM and I never have any doubts it will do exactly what I want or ur....don't ever want it to do.

Well right now im carrying a .45. i do like the smaller size and larger caliber, i miss the capacity and comfort or my 9mm. I have great confidence in the .45 and know it only really takes one round to do its job.....but having almost 1/3 the capacity is a downer. If i need to get a few rounds down sights fast til i can get to cover ill be out of ammo with the .45. I know you can't make a .45 smaller, but ballistic technology has made it so 9mm acts "bigger". I would realistically carry either but if shit really hit the fan id rather have my 9mm.......

You guys should really look into the plethora of .45 survivors out there, plenty of instances where the .45 fails to stop people cold too.

I know for LEO's its a totally different scenario but from where I come from a pistol of any type is the backup weapon for when you're no longer able to use the rifle that you're using after the machine gun quit working properly.

No doubt. my first choice would always be my ak. no questions asked.
ya people survive shark attacks and alligator attacks etc. if you don't put it in the right spot .50 isn't gonna do you a Damn bit of good. but if you put each bullet in the same hole....the .45 ideally wins

Well, a .50 rifle round will pretty much kill you no matter where it hits you.

9mm vs. .45? Grroooan

Yes I am with you.

The 45 vs 9 debate has raged on for the last 30 years. Never will be a winner........

Doesn't matter what caliber you use, if you don't practice shooting it it won't matter. If you use FMJ on either you need better ammo. Shot placement and target's condition is everything, hit the vitals. Control under pressure is what messes you up, hence the first sentence"practice" then practice some more until it is so natural and comfortable. Use what ever caliber you feel comfortable with, there is also 357 SIG and 40 S&W.....Secret service uses 5.7 FN....want to enter those into the debate?

All of it goes back to my first part of my statement.:lecture:

I agree 100%. But why practice when you can fight online?
:D

Question for ya.

Colorado conceal permit is a "handgun" permit not a "weapon" permit. Does the ak pistol count as handgun? it is stamped and sold as pistol.....

Yes, and no, of you can conceal it on your person it can be covered under a CCW. I know a coupled guys who have carried an AR pistol as a CCW
