1993 Jeep XJ

1993 Jeep Xj 4.0 just did a bunch of top end work. New exhaust/new head/etc. I got it all back together and it fired up perfectly! Proceeded to start it another time or two then shut it down. Went to start it and back into the driveway out of the garage and it all of the sudden wouldn’t start. No crank, nothing. All interior lights/headlights/gauges work no problem.

I checked fuses and both Alt 1 and Alt 2 fuse were blown as well as the 200amp inline fuse (big 7 wiring kit from jeep cables).

It will instantly blow these fuses as soon as I try to replace them. I’ve cleaned and checked grounds, going to take battery and alternator to get tested tomorrow. Not sure if that would be the culprit. Will not start with a jump either. All 3 or four starts were within 30 minutes of each-other and nothing was touched under the hood during this time.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone!

Disconnect things (alternator, starter, PDC, any accesories added), replace fuses (shouldn't blow with things disconnected) and then start re-connecting things. When you blow the fuses that will tell you which direction to go hunting for the culprit.

You pinched a wire somewhere on reassembly. Had that happen on a nova once, caught the stater wire between the starter and header. Everything was fine until it got hot enough to melt the insulation.
