Yes, you have me dead to rights: LJ is not an offical designation and I should have clarified it as an '04-'06 Wrangler Unlimited.

Do you get the same image pop into your head if you hear Ferrari 365 GTB/4 as you do Ferrari Daytona?

Al Bundy quoted the same thing I saw on the final CARS law.

And for all of you that are worried about running out of parts, I have a VW that is 20+ years older than any XJ and parts are readily available.

TJ Unlimited or TJ LWB would be fine.

I knew the answer to this because a friend of mine owns a shop that restores old race Ferraris older than the 365 GTB/4.

I am not getting my point accross. So they can sell them as seperate assemblies but not as a complete drivetrain? Now isn't that a little ridiculus? So a FWD car that has a transaxle cannot be sold because you can't seperate the transmission from the axle? This is my point exactly that determining the legal definition of words is not black/white, it's left up to interpretation so what it will end up meaning who knows. Besides if the intention is to eleminate older more polluting vehicles why would you allow any used parts to be sold that can allow other ones to stay on the road? And why destroy only the motor?

Now that they have spent 1 billion dollars (up to 250,000 vehicles) in a week and are seeking an additional 2 billion or more this could end up affecting potentially over 1 million cars being sent to the crusher. How will this affect the salvage yards (assuming they can sell the drivetrain as parts or individual assemblies) now? Will it flood the market depressing salvage prices?

Surely you are not comparing a car that sold over 21 million copies with a serious cult following with that of the XJ which only sold 4 million and at best has a fair amount of enthusiasts. And of all the stuff you can get for a VW aftermarket where are the same parts for an XJ? I can no longer get nearly all body seals/moldings/etc.. for an XJ.

Most are buying kits from moc for $26.00. I bought 5gal for 116.00 mixed my own at a cost of $5.00 each and I am billing out the kit for $20.00 and labor is $30.00.

Nice! Yah the MOC stuff but our labor is $50. Did you get the tags to put on the engines too?

List of most junked vehicles under the program that just got another 2 billion dollars. This list pretty much follows what our 4 Dealer franchises have taken in. 4 XJ's all at 150,000 miles (nothing for a 4.0L). One was a pristine 87 Wagoneer XJ no dents, interior like new, and was most likely original owner. Oh and it had the tow package which means, oh well it's gone now. Some of the Grand's (ZJ and WJ) were nice too, a couple of nice Exploders (2003) too. We've seized the engines on 33 vehicles so far with yet more to do.

1) Ford Explorer 4wd
2) Ford F-150 2wd
3) Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd (ZJ and WJ)
4) Jeep Cherokee 4wd
5) Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan FWD
6) Ford Explorer 2wd
7) Chevy Blazer 4wd
8) Ford F-150 4wd
9) Chevrolet C1500 Pickup 2WD
10) Ford Windstar FWD Van

Lol. The Rav 4 has great reviews by both Consumer Reports and owners. Toyota itself has made home run hit after home run hit. We personally have 120k plus on our current Toyota. Seems like you are spreading more misinformation!
Cause Consumer Reports is a reliable source right? What about the fact that MID WAY through the year they violently yanked their support of the 07 and 08 Camry because they actually tested one and figured out they're piles? CR has on more than one occasion blindly backed Toyota's because some years ago, they actually put out a decent vehicle for the money. Not today though.

Or what about the cracking frames on the Tacoma's and FJ's? The same ones Consumer reports backed?

But, if you want to swear by CR, then it looks like you need to start buying American. Ford Fusion is whoopin' the Camry's ass!

Consumer Reports admitted in '08 that they had been recommending every Toyota product based on their previous excellent reliability. Because of some declines, and because other car companies have gotten so much better, CR said they will now be testing Toyotas just like the other cars.

And F150 has kicked Tundras ass, and so has Silverado.

Someone needs to get up to date on what they're talking about. :)

Hmm, well the rest of world disagrees with you. Maybe you are right and everyone else is wrong! /SARCASM. :laugh3:

FJ cruiser sales

US Calendar Year Sales
2008 28,668

Jeep Wrangler Sales last year was around 100,000 so the FJ is a hit with sales figures about 1/4 that of Wrangler.

Should we mention full size trucks too? Toyota is the only one other than the 3 from Detroit still in this market (Nissan is dropping the Titan).
How about the minivan market? Toyota is outsold by Dodge/Chrysler almost 2:1.

Some interesting reading here but then again maybe it's just me. :D

You guys are going to scare him away with your facts.

I agree and if you are going to take money from the government at lease use it and by American and help your nieghbor by creating jobs here, and let the imports rot in the harbor parking lots so they can be crushed and sent back.

My first Nissan pickup and my current one are both made here in the US. :)

Who's taken advantage of this? what'd you give and what'd you get. Pictures?

I wouldn't even give them my 93 ranger I bought for $300. A little work, it runs good, drives good....a/c and cruise still work...beat to hell...but WTF!? I've put 30000 miles on it.

Pick a part just got 4 more XJs on the $for clunkers program. It means more parts for us!
