Curious.....

Rick, Rick, Rick....... what are you doing bud??? You hadn't told me about these plans!

:D

How did I miss these replys?

I'm not turning this into a buggy.
The roof and A pillars have taken a beating in the last few months and I'm just cutting out the old stuff and replacing it.
It should look just the same as it did when I finished it the first time.

Buggy project might need to wait until after we get this Country out of the financial mess we are in...

Next month maybe.

:D

I am looking forward to building the tube doors. Nothing like I have ever seen before, more like a desert racing set-up. Think full tube 'frame' with nets and some sheet metal.

Rick

Since this idea was a year and a half ago, I guess you decided not to pursue it?

Robert

Right, I saw that you managed to get the full doors back on.

Just didn't know if that was a permanent solution, or a stopgap til you got your fancy ones done...

Robert

This is what I am working on today.

Sorry for the crappy pictures.
I cut off the dented and battered pillars and found a donor.
The only issue I am having is with the A-pillars. I am trying to graft it on without removing the window that came with the donor.

It may not be as easy as I had hoped...
:rattle:

You're going to lift the roof? Trying to piss off the rockabilly guys with their love of chopped cars?

Also, you need a personalized plate.

Grafting completed, without the window.
I won't try that again. It was that close to being in without any damage, then craaaaaaccccckkkkk.
Crap, oh well a small crack is no biggie, but, it went downhill from there.
All of you who have had to remove the windshield know how much of a bitch it is, as well as how messy it is.

I won't be doing that again...

Nice, turned out pretty. :D

The whole left side of my windshield is all smashed up (see avatar for details), that happened in May 2007. It's still like that because windshields are a pain in the ass.

When I did the exo (of course, I waited until the rig looked like a raisin before doing it) I made sure to leave enough room to change out the windshield if I ever get around to it. I like having it. The next one may be polycarbonate though.

The thing about windshields is that they are cheap.
Installed for about two hundred.
But, mine is now a trailer queen so there realy isn't any need for a window anyway...
(but I could have snuck around town and had a chance with it...)

Mine is a trailer queen 95% of the time...but I keep it tagged & insured for a small sum every year, because it's nice to be able to drive down the road for food or gas every now and then, or pull people out when we get a lot of snow.

As gnarly and beat as my rig looks, it can still go into 'winter mode':

There's something to be said for wheelin' in 15 degree weather all day long with the heat going, nice and comfy. :D Last october I was on a trip where we spent all day in a 30-degree mix of rain and snow, and the access roads to get there were 40-50 MPH jaunts. Having windshield wipers is cool sometimes.
