Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

I ordered it last night

added some gusseting to Lisas WJ trackbar frame side mount. put in new bushing sleeves, and new super hard poly bushings, also ordered WJ outer frame plating from these guys, the only ones I could find.

http://dbmetalworx.com

and I ordered some 1.25" DOM and 5/8" heims to make a across frame brace between the rails , near the box, but its such a tight fit between the pitman arm at full lock and the sway bar, that I am going to make it , but barely.

also installed new ball joints in the WJ. we started getting DW again recently.

ORdered 2 more kelvins offroad stabilizers, going to swap out the old random ones I had lying around that I had installed.

Added gussets like this to both sides of her trackbar mount

And installed one prothane coil insert

built a new tie rod so its straight, the old one was bent.

I hate the angle and the fact that its so close to the diff cover. I am going to mount it 8" further passenger for the axle side mount, and instead of being under the tie rod, I want it to be parallel with the tie rod.

bled the ram, turns like a dream.

I like the PSC bolt on mount.

made some inserts for the prothanes too:

Ram is flat and parrallel but hittin the diff and also maxing out too early going pass side so im loosing steering . I have to cut the axle side mount again and move it over about 3" and I might try to put my 7x1.75" ram on

made the single shear mount double shear, and also moved the axle side mount over a ton.

found out the hard way, that I need to move the axle side mount over at least another 3". damn.

been working on the ladies rig:

WJ outer steering box plating:

built a across frame brace for the WJ too:

WJ outer plating:

the wj has gotten much more love than this to try to rid it of DW:
new KOR trackbar bushings in the brand new JKS trackbar

new ball joints
2 brand new KOR HD steering stabilizers
outer box plating
inner frame plating
under frame plating
outer frame plating
frame cross bracing
trackbar gusseting
weld washers on everything
new steering box
new TREs
new Luca bushings
new UCAS
new LCAs
new coils
new shocks
prothane bumps
new unit bearings
new cv axles
new brakes/rotors/calipers
new tires
balanced tires
wheels checked for bent rims

last thing to do this weekend:
Build long arms for LCAS, and dial in caster by making them longer so I get more caster than currently getting.

Lol thats awesome

Kind of weird, red jeep started doing 2 things tonight-
it did not want to start
finally ended up holding the pedal down to start it, giving it a ton of gas.

second,
it seems like it when I put it in gear , either park or drive, there is hesitation, like it doesn't engage in gear, and you give it gas and it wont go, seems a little gutless too, but then again, 40s.

my plan is to swap out the TPS,

any other ideas ?
I did change the tranny fluid recently , perhaps the tranny is slipping? I let the thing sit for 2 weeks + with the pan off to let it drain out.

fluid has looked good as long as I've had it.

Did you add enough fluid to fill the torque converter too? Not sure on XJs, but if you do a full drain the torque converter might not be filling up with fluid. Might check the FSM and see if there's a certain way to fill the TC.
The TPS has some input on the tranny too, so can't hurt to change it since they're cheap.

Hmm good call. I have no idea how to fill the TC, but that could be part of it. this all started after that massive drain of fluid.

another quart of tranny fluid seemed to help a lot. its driving way better with a parallel ram with the throw mostly dialed in. it will be even better with front shocks , the fronts are still blown.

Also, I built some long arms for the WJ today.

I used the Iron rock offroad bolt on brackets from Daves Offroad for like 95$ shipped, some 2"x2" square tube that cost me around 20$, ruffstuff bushed DOM for the frame side cost about 30$ after 20%S off weekendand cut up the old lowers(free) to weld in to make the axle side adjustable with the rock crawler joints.
so it basically got long arms for like under 140$. not too bad.

left the stock uppers on for now, ill eventually either make it a true 3 link or radius arms

its, funny , as far as a mild wheeler goes, the WJ is actually kinda there- WJ specs so far:

factory LSD front and rear
V8(these 4.7s are 438 lbs like 70 pounds lighter than a i6 and about 60 ft lbs of torque more - I think which comes in around 510)
brand new 32.5" tires
4" lift
long arms
linked rear(going to do long arms in the rear at some point)
all new steering/steering box, ball joints, unit bearings, brakes , front end in general really is all new
beefy trackbar
tons of frame plating and bracing
winch bumper
tcase skid
WJ akebono brakes and PS pump
114K

just need to build some sliders and a rear bumper for it.

if Lisa ever decides to retire it from DD status and get little honda, then I would increase it to a 6" lift and some 33" duratracs, chromos front and rear, BUT that is IF she ever decides too...it could be years...

IRO brackets:

\\\

necks down to the rockKrawler joints:

I am also considering welding new axle side LCA brackets front and rear, to get them flush with the tubes, they both hang so low. I get much flatter angles out of them . the rear I am simply going to build longer lowers, then perhaps build a New A arm like zach and andy did, or just buy one from IRO .
