Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

I need more MJ mains.

Also ordered a rebuild kits for the 7100s to go 360/80 up front from 275/78. ruined the other brand new 7100 this run. damn.

Also, going to add a solid metal dowel inside the protheses, I have some 1.25" solid rod lying around somewhere.

they are compressing like crazy, seems like too much. I was running with no air gap and still destroyed a 7100.

1.25 will bounce around, make a lot of noise and can bounce out of the hole.

1.5 fits snug, like 'tap it gently with a hammer' snug. spend a few bucks for some 1.5" steel or delrin.

Thanks Cal. you are the man.

I have some 1.5" .250 and 1.5" .120 wall.

I have 5" of up travel, about 7" of down with limit straps to limit down travel. I was thinking of redoing the shock mounts axle side to drop them an inch lower to help too - but they are integrated as one piece coil, LCA, shock mount thing so it wont be as easy as Id like.

I have some round bump plates. Maybe ill weld the round bump plates to the 1.5" and shove it down from the top.

Just tap it in..

Fab some hoops and integrate a cross bar through the hood? Eliminate fenders and tie in even further when you do the cage. But maybe after that much work... Finding some coilovers on pirate might just be worth it.

using the "dirty method of measuring lift" - from top of axle tube to frame I am at about 7.5" up front and 6.5" in the rear, with the rear partially loaded with mostly tools but no camping gear or 40" spare which probably adds another 250lbs between the gear and tire. I want the rear 1" higher than the front loaded.

in the long run I am looking at building a bastard pack from some f150 leaves to use less leaves and get more spring rate.

for now I am going to remove the cut down overload leaf and add a 3" long AAL I have and another MJ leaf into it, hoping to get 3" more in the rear from where its at with all of that.

also trying to hit two birds with one stone, so ill use the last hole on the perches to move the axle forward another 1" from moving it back 3", so I don't have to relocate the gas tank hopefully between that and more lift in the rear and allow the 14b to clear the gas tank at full bump or at least allow it to barely self clearance.

I will be adjusting the lowers and upper up front to get another 1-2" of stretch to basically get anything I can as far as stability since I am pretty tall.

Although looking at the rig in a lineup, it doesnt appear too much taller than orhers

the rig looks awesome out there. definitely a good height to be for 40's. I just love how clean it is. makes me wish mine wasn't such a roll bucket

I was worried I was too tall, but on everything off camber this last weekend it felt super stable.
Hell I took a line coming down into the slabs going to buck where I basically dropped 6 feet straight down and the thing even still felt stable.

ordered 360/100 shim stacks or whatever it is they give you. and oil and rebuild kits.
time to figure out how to rebuild 7100s.
I am wondering if I need to fine tune it, that I can use shims from the 275/78 setup, who knows might end up at 300/100 or something like that.

You can absolutely flutter shim stacks to achieve a middle ground final valving. I've also plugged up bleed valves in the shock piston with a screw to further slow fluid travel down.

Ok cool.

basically I am maxxing out compression just with on road driving. on the trail I just ruining these shocks. between a hard stop in the middle of the prothane and stiffer shocks overall, I am hoping this is the last of it. I wish I could find a cheap no2 tank close by in case I have to keep playing with shim stacks. colfax aint too close but ill probably be heading up the hill for the first revalve.

Jegs for the prothanes

More leave swap. Added a 3" AAL and a mj second leaf and removed a flat second leaf. Gained about 2" with a decent sized load in it

Cut the bottom out

Im thinking about adding a traction bar off the second cross member. Ruffstuff 20% weekend

Any input on traction bars ?

I got mine with my axel from turbobrick . Aaron loved it and if I remember right he got it from Dr Smash in Carson City. I plan on installing it this winter so I will know more after that.
