Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

Isnt the fuel pump on the 98 much harder to swap than the renix?

We pulled the hill to slick rock 70 plus mph lol

yeah it aint doing that anymore. its been pretty horrible lately. pulling hills at 35 at best on the steep ones, and some not so bad at 45mph.

Ill check trans fluid too.
speed sensors
fuel pressure
compression
and check cat

And then after reno I plan to swap the 99+ intake manifold and one of those eBay exhaust manifolds that look like ATP knock offs and maybe a new down pipe. and port match the intake and the throttle body

Pump on you 98 is on top of the tank. Have to drop the tank to get to it. I cut and access hole in the cargo area so i dont have to do that anymore. Im on my third pump.

Have you hooked up a scanner while driving and see what's going on?

What about O2? Have you verified they are working correctly?

No . Like a odb2 scanner?

any links? I have a cheap HF code reader, but I dont think it reads live data.

I have no intentions of dropping the tank , so I would just take my snap on nibblers, or my dremel, or sheet metal shears, and cut the cargo area out.

Rig is off getting a cage put in though, so I dont have access to it.

ordered.

Damn those are getting cheap

if I can grab a 99+ intake at PNP for 50$ and one of those for 85$, that would be nice and cheap. and then a port and polish kit just to port match the new intake to the head and to polish it out, along with matching the TB to the intake manifold, that should help a little bit in the short run , along with all the diagnosis I need to do.

Yup like what Gordo mentioned and showed. Some scanner that'll show a live feed of your engine and see where your fuel/air ratio is and how each cylinder is performing. A guy here in Salem, OR that's part of another group has the fancy snap on scanner, he help me a couple times to figure out some issues I had. If any of your buddies have one, take a trip out to some hills and do a live feed and see what's happening

For my trackbar, I contacted ballistic fab, since they are the only company I can find that has a forged joint with a 7/8-14 thread that is 2" wide - something That will fit in a 2" wide ruffstuff trackbar mount to replace the 7/8" heims with 2" misalignments since I keep blowing through heims on the trackbar . They don't make a 9/16 center bore ball, so Jeff over there is going to make a few custom center balls for 9/16 bolts and send some joints over to me to test on a trackbar and report back to him to see how long they last.

if anything they will be incredibly cheaper to rebuild with just races, versus having to buy all new 57$ heims each time. I've gotten about 6 runs out of the FK JMX heims. If they last over 6 runs, ill be very impressed.

Are you bumped and strapped? Tested for bind via cycling with coils removed?

super bump stopped- dialed in over time playing with the protheses and hard DOM stops in the center with a bump pad welded to the DOM.

No Strapped. I need to do that one of these days. I even have the damn limit straps.
