Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

a few easy cosmetic things.

the sprayers did not work on the wipers, mostly because there was no spray bottle and there were no sprayers since that part of the cowl was buster off.

Got this white trim part for free from Tommy and painted it black, then threw in a washer bottle.I am pretty sure this washer bottle is going to get smashed in pretty quick, but hoping it lasts a little while.

You should get a washer fluid bag from a late 60's mustang and rig it for an electric siphon pump.

You can also run one from a pre 96 and it mounts inside next to the brake booster on the fender wall. Splice a few wires and re route the hoses and your done. My tires rub mine pretty good on my 97. But the earlier style tank is what ill be moving to when it goes.

I think I have a couple renix era bottles that go inside. I just like having less clutter inside the engine bay. Maybe ill just chop this one up and epoxy it so I can tuck it in up there easier.

some fun in the snow over the weekend. ON the freeway, its night and day as far as steering. the larger ram lines, larger ram, smaller pulley and traction bar along with 7.5* of caster have this thing steering predictably on the freeway.

Now the only issue is, the thing seems a little gutless but I think the new TPS is toast with the symptoms of gear searching and downshifting way too early I adjusted the TV cable and did some other things to see if that helps. ordered a mopar one this time. It is pissing tranny fluid I noticed. I lost over a quart or two on this trip up the mountain.

You're still leaking transmission fluid? Is it coming from the pan or somewhere else?

I have no clue. Ive done the pan gasket 4 times

alright good thing I grabbed this new transmission. I pulled mine out tonight after work- what a pain in the butt.

the actual body of the aw4 has a massive crack along the front of it, not the bell housing, but a good chunk after the bell housing.

it makes more sense though, the tranny was not really leaking much from the bell housing, which would be if the pump seal or pump o-ring was bad, and it was not leaking from the vent tube, and I had done the pan gasket 3 times already. it was only leaking from the driver side, and it would only leak after heavy , hard drives up to the mountain, not on short around town drives. the leak was up higher than the oil, but not as high as the vent tube. glad I pulled it.

Anyone want to help me install the new trans Fri after work or saturday ?

Trans Star hooked it up.
they had valve body gasket kits in stock, shift kits in stock, and the giant 8" O ring for the trans fluid pump in stock, they gave me a killer price on everything. Im impressed with them so far.

transgo kit for 83$ locally from trans star

have to replace this shift rod tonight too:

got these new quick disconnect fittings at napa, 20% off if you buy a 5 gallon bucket, so I filled it up :

I would have converted to An fittings with the swap. But, looks like you are chugging along

Pulled 2 aw4s apart tonight. Still need to do the transgo kit on the new valve body. Swapped out the broken shift rod that goes through the trans to the nss on the new trans

Trying to find out if I can just install part of the trans go kit . Hard to tell if I can just swap accumulator springs or if I have to do more than that.

Had to pull both valve bodies to get to that shifter rod. By the second tranny I was moving much faster

Good luck with that transmission rebuild. Give it Hell! I mean take your time and do it right!

Well, im not doing a full rebuild. Just the damn shift lever and the valve body mods and new solenoids. That should help a ton. And this trans has 60k less miles than mine . And its not cracking apart
