What's going to break in Moab...

I would very strongly recommed steering box mounting upgrades, such as a C-rok plate for the box and a M.O.R.E. brace. I've personally witnessed a couple of gearboxes remove themselves from their mountings in the high traction trails of Moab.

where do you get the replacement yoke for a d 30 with the strap eliminator?

Call virtually any offraod parts place and buy one. Let your fingers do the walking.

What will brake is whatever you don't have a spare for and cannot be found within a 50 mile radius.

I don't have an answer for you, but I can say I won't be a Rockwerks customer anytime soon. Being such a smartass for a legitimate and timely question helps nobody.

A: Finally join up,(after 3 years and over 100posts) run for a BOD spot and do something about it.
B: Grow, beg, borrow or steal some thicker skin

You're right--it's just an internet forum and it's just like guys who have beer balls. They say a lot of sh*& when they don't have to [edit-add "look"] anyone in the eyes.

Okay. I guess the word "timely" was out of order on my part.

Those that know me know I speak the same to your face as on the forum.

and for your info I dont drink. A 6 pack will last me a month. unless I have guests over to work on their junk, then they drink the beer.

My answers for the strap question is from experience working on others rigs who have had u-joint failures. I have never seen a strap fail unless it was loose to start with and the bolt damaged the holes.

I have seen many times when the U-bolt style has been overtightened and causes premature failure of the joint.

Word is that the straps usually fail because the yoke hits a rock and shears off a bolt head. The u-bolt style aren't suceptible to that due to the nuts holding the u-bolts being up on top and out of the way, as well as heavier duty. I got one from John (Avanteone) when he built up my XJ D44, it was about $35. Well worth the minimal expense, IMO.

HMMMM never seen that but interesting, jsut dont overtighen the ubolts, the added stress will crush the needle bearings

I know this is a year old thread but I thought I would share some of the major malfunctions I have had in a dozen or so trips to Moab.

Broken main leaf on Behind the Rocks.

Broken lower control arm bracket on Gloden Spike.

Broken drag link on the Golden Crack.

Fuel pump gave out during a week long trip. Luckily I was staying at Canyonlands Campground, there are a couple of auto parts stores within walking distance.

I like to think that I am dilligent with maintenance but experience has proven otherwise. :(

Be prepared. :)
