Weekend is over...what did you get done?

The street toy got new tires...of course I had to go with BFGoodrich!

Well this sort of answers the question of whether the 249 chain & sprockets will "fit" with the 242 internals. In a short answer, no it won't work as-is; the snap ring that holds the sprocket in place had no chance of being put on. I'm sure that I could've took it to work, put it in the lathe and turned the center of the sprocket's hub down to match the thickness of the 242's sprocket hub, but with the pump in the more traditional position with the 242 I wasn't sure it would all pack together, and at that point I just wanted to get it put back together and be done with it so I just used the 242 chain & sprockets

This pic shows the difference in hub thicknesses (look at the inner spline section):

Cases all torn down. I double-checked the input shaft assemblies to confirm they had two different gear pitches and they were in fact different.

All reassembled and reinstalled in the ZJ. Took it for a test drive and it works fine. I now have to figure out the shifter linkage. I'd read somewhere that I should be able to use the factory 249 linkage and I can tell you....you can't. The throw is way too short. I'll have to look into other options, but for now I just have it locked into 2wd.

There's something really disturbing about having this many leftover parts, even when you know you don't need any of them

Got most of my bumper built yesterday. Just have to finish welding it up, add some more support, D-ring tabs and mount a fairlead for the winch.

Whoops. Apparently, I forgot to copy the picture in here...

I reused the stock linkage on my 96 ZJ, just had to swap shifter tabs from the 249 case to the 242 IIRC.

Finally got a Sears AGM battery for the ghost Friday. Went to dinner with my girl at Southern Hops Brewing in Florence. They have a band playing and was a nice change. Then we went to see if a friend of mine was working at a place called Apple Annie's. Pub type bar place in Florence too. They also had a band playing that was really good I thought. "Crashbox Charlotte" from Charlotte, NC. Saturday I worked on the green jeep getting the bumper end caps put on and the new to me ignition and charging wire harness installed. Later I installed the battery and the key wouldn't work. So I tore apart the column and replaced that key cylinder with the one from my old column. Traded text with Mike about it most of Sunday. I think you are right sir.... My Jeep hates me! :kissyou:

I wrapped up a cowl air intake last night. I had hoped to adapt a cylinder shaped Range Rover air box, but it was just too big to work, so I used the factory airbox. I sealed the hole in the front and RTVd it all up, then cut a hole in the back of the box and ran a hose to the cowl.

I'll take it on it's maiden run later today and see how it does. I took out one of my hood vents so I could close the hood and still get a light inside the engine bay and poke around. The hood contacts the hose when it is down and crushes it just a little, but not enough to restrict good airflow. I may consider taking a hammer and pounding a dent in that brace, but I don't know. I'd have liked to drop the hole in the cowl about 3/4 inches, but that wiring loom didn't have that much give.

I didn't have the small shift bracket that bolts to the t-case. All I have is the one from the 249, so I tried to use that but no dice. It doesn't allow enough throw with the stock ZJ shifter rod/bellcrank combo. I've seen other photos of the 242's shift tab and it looks much shorter than the one for the 249.

I got a legal separation over the weekend!

I now own my house, 4 of the 5 Jeeps(kept all the XJ's, she didn't want them they are always broke down LOL!) and some bills to pay off!

She kept the JK and got half the equity out of the house and has no bills.

We have joint custody of our only minor child, and no child support either way

My new life began on Friday!

Re-tightened the bolts on the (Home-made) 1.25" body lift on the TJ. Replaced the blow fuses for the Power outlet (#17 under the hood) :repair:
Fixed the short that was blowing the fuse and getting ready for the first Uwharrie ride of the season! :D

Nice! Rear struts came in today as did a NSS for the 98. Rear glass will be installed Friday or Saturday. Cannot wait to wheel the Ghost again!
