What was the reasoning on the gear choice?

What top speeds did you see on the lakebed?

Seems like you'd benefit from even lower gearing (like the Jeep Speed guys) and it would give you better acceleration out of the hole.

I can't image you'd be able to use the 105+mph (mathematical and hypothetical) top speed that 4.88's and 35's would give you in high range.

Not trying to be critical at all just trying to understand your setup.

We started with a complete running, geared, locked and beadlocked jeep that already had 4.88's.

When we did the front 44 we discussed gearing lower, but we have more than enough power to push the rig with 4.88's (we have way more power than a jeepspeed..) and wanted the higher top speed in low range.

We literally broke our engine in during KOH last year, so didn't push it hard. We hit 80 a couple of times and peaked out at 88 during the race. I hit 97 on a dirt road a few months ago and had lots of throttle left, just ran out of balls..

Loads of progress this weekend, but not many pictures. I'll take a bunch when we wrap up to show where we've been busy.

While Brendan and I were chatting, James managed to stab the motor away solo!

Just about ready to fire, need to plumb a few last things in and go over the checklist. New steering column is all welded up and just needs bolted down. New vent lines for the trans and fuel system are hooked up and just need dressed in.

Probably not anytime soon. Richards shop is a great place for us to tackle the heavy fab, but G&G keeps way too busy for Richard to dedicate all of his time to this one car, and its a really long drive for James and I. As much as I'd rather work in the comfort of his shop, we get a lot more done working on the car down here.

Except maybe this week. Damn rain..
