Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

car looks good man. radiator came out nice. i had the same issue with the fan clutch, i ended up machining the fins on the front a little bit and it worked fine.

Looks great, but a minor concern... that radiator mount bushing looks sketch to me.

I have had many of those crack (albeit usually while either removing or installing them...), usually the center stud that goes through the core support tears out of the rubber. Where you notched it will only make it weaker, you're risking it tearing out through there and the radiator bouncing back into the fan/fan clutch.

I would either notch the core support to clear the bushing, or preferably, add a small tab hanging down from it behind the bushing that will keep the radiator from moving any further toward the fan. Hell, that might be a good idea to add as a backup anyways in case the mount has an issue, I'd hate to see you guys DNF with a hole in the radiator because of some five dollar bushings.

Hmm. I'm pulling it back apart in a couple of weeks to replace the electric fan with a late model 10 blade (as soon as I find one).

I'll take a look at that then. Thanks for the heads up.

Cal, I can get you a new one if you like its about 100 shipped. Dont know if thats a good price or bad, but it is new.

Mine works great.

Well cats been out of the bag for a while. I barrel rolled the car at speed a couple of weeks ago. (whoops..). It doesn't look as bad as it felt.. ;) The cage held strong, if we had built the cage out to the furthest edges of the body we may have avoided damage completely - but then it was built to offer the most possible protection to the occupants, not to save some tin.

Up until I dumped it, the new cooling system was working great! Car was running fast and strong.

Took some time to recover, as soon as Thanksgiving is over I'll start stripping it down for repairs. Need to replace the front clip, drivers fender and I think the front core support. Will press the roof line, cut the doors down to half doors (intended to do this anyways) and evaluate whether or not we need to replace the hood. And then paint!

Well just went through this thread and while my eyes feel like they're gonna explode it was well worth the time.

This build and rig is pretty unbelieveable! Great job guys!

Radiator install looks like it went together very similar to mine. I didn't reuse the factory upper mounts as the radiator sat almost a 1/2" lower for some reason so I had some aluminum blocks made to take up the difference. I also switched to 3 - 9/10" electric fans.

I would check and make sure you don't have any electrolysis in the radiator. One of the guy on PBB lost a Griffen in a XJ from this. I'm thinking of switching my system over to a waterless coolant just to completely avoid this issue. I found a small current in the coolant, not sure how much is harmful but it worries me regardless.

On to repairs.

Start off with a cardboard template.

I'm not sure how practical a cup holder on a full race jeep is, particularly given its out of reach when you're strapped in - but he get's an A+ for style and volunteering!

ok I'll bite. you already had a truss, were you that worried about bending the tube at the neck down?

There were two strong arguments there.

"Better safe than sorry." and "If we bend another one, we'll never hear the end of it."

:)
