Seven years ago today, my life changed forever

There was only one clip where I crossed the double yellow, and indeed, the road was secured. The clip starts right after a u-turn, so I know there's no traffic going our direction. We had about 20 people at the bottom of the hill in constant communication with us and if there had been any oncoming traffic, we would have immediately let off. That was the only reason I crossed it, because I knew that the road was secured. I know very much about the safety of other drivers, and would never do anything that malicious. The other clip that I have, I only touched the yellow once, and it was around a corner that I could see around, so you can see I am perfectly able to have fun while staying in my own lane.

SOOOO buddies on a radio hun! What about the people in between those that stopped for a repair, a view, a picture, a flat? What about those that came of a side road ok maybe there weren't any side roads but maybe there's trails hiking or Jeep? What about animals that may cross in front then you wouldn't have to worry about rebuilding it for the third time because you wouldn't be around to do it, that's not so bad it's the other poor guy you'd take out! The way your driving only leads to this :flame:

Was it "legal"? No, it wasn't. I've seen plenty of 4-wheeling groups do things that if you wanted to get technical, were illegal too. The road was 100% secured in both directions, and I'm not sure what else you want me to say. That road is so remote, we saw maybe 8 cars on an 80+ mile trip. Outside of that short clip, we never crossed a yellow line once. In fact, it had been raining most of the trip so we were just cruising. You could probably take a 12" lifted XJ with no sway bars faster than we were going. Were there any lives in any danger except mine? Nope. Was I pushing my car to its limits? Nope, I never do on any public road. I never push my car past probably about 85% of its limit, the 100% is reserved specifically for the track. And as you saw in the video, I do in fact go to the track. I don't "street race" anymore at all. Yeah, I did when I was 19 and thought I was invincible. Had one close call and said that's enough, not on the roads anymore. My dad was a paramedic for 12 years, and took me to open track days all the time when I was a kid. Of all the people who should know about track safety, it should be me.

"raining most of the trip" Wow and raining to add insult to injury! "Nope, I never do on any public road." YOU JUST DID! "My dad was a paramedic for 12 years, and took me to open track days all the time when I was a kid." He should have taken you to the Morgue a couple of times and shown you dead speeders! Seriously, do what you want that's why this is the greatest country in the WORLD (not according to Obama), but don't post stupid shit like driving the way you were fast or at the mall cause it just pisses people off more about rice burners and such. "I've seen plenty of 4-wheeling groups do things that if you wanted to get technical, were illegal too." We are the 1st to criticize them too when they do stupid things whether illegal or legal, just cause it's legal doesn't mean it's safe!

Thank god I'm just like all you guys on here and never did anything like race a car on a street or a bike for that matter. I always used the crosswalks and only crossed when the light was green.

Good luck with these guys, they're just fresh as new snow they is.LOL

I'm just going to post this one thing, then I'm done... relevant because of your post title.

7 years ago, not today, but close enough - summer of 2005... one of my close friends was killed on a bike by someone crossing a double yellow on a canyon road just like this. I don't care who you have sitting where. unless you have the road shut down in the proper way with CHP on each end and permits to drive the road in the manner shown in your video you should NOT be posting shit like this on the internet. keep your apex practice with your wannabe track car on the track, this type of driving has no place on public roads.

So the wrong place to post this lol. That said, I had a blast in the mountains when I had 31 claws on it, those things gripped!

Im disappointed.

I made an assumption based on the subject heading that you had a cool story about the first time you got laid.

Sorry that it hasnt happened yet, but i'll subscribe to the thread for the hell of it

Good luck

I'm glad you feel it was money well spent....

this video is better though because its an XJ- http://youtu.be/L9VsOtmbe1s

Wow, he could have gone out of control and crashed into a church full of homeless children and struck a pole resulting in nuclear holocaust! This type of behavior is unacceptable in public parking lots, even if nobody else was there, because the police didn't have it blocked off and gone over by safety inspectors! I bet the cameraman didn't even have a high visibility jacket on, either! :lecture:

keep it between the damn lines or off your side of the road and I don't care what you do.

if you cross into someone else's lane I have no respect no matter how many times you ask.

it is that simple.

It did cause a nuclear holocaust. I decreased the surplus population in the process. It was epic brah.

All that needs to be said about a Ford motor co. product.

I will admit it isn't the most reliable car in the world. When it's running, it's great! But yeah, I think FoMoCo hired either small children or the mentally deficient when they were designing it. To lighten the mood here a bit, here are a few examples of Ford's incompetence when it comes to this car.

Engine revs to 7,000 rpms, which is great. When the alternator spins that fast, it spins the brushes away and makes the alternator fail if you run to redline very often.

Alternator placement is the worst possible. It's a FWD V6. The alternator is passenger side. At the back. On the bottom. Behind the passenger front shock tower. Right above the subframe. Behind the tie rod. Under the DOHC cylinder head. And given the flaw in the alternator to begin with, makes replacing an alternator a royal adventure.

Fuel pump was subject of a recall. Ford thought they were being clever by leaving a hole in the floor so you could access the pump from inside. Unfortunately, when the tank was actually placed in the car, the pump is offset from the hole by about an inch, so you need to get out a grinder and enlarge the hole so you can remove the pump.

Hey, I like the car. I never said it was an exercise in engineering greatness. I love working on my XJ so much more than my Cougar. :roflmao:

Is that an MJ I spotted behind the XJ?

I've been watching this thread a bit.

The car/truck hobby is so unique as there are so many schools of thought on what to do, or not do to a car. It is also somewhat hypocritical. The same exact folks who would modify a stock XJ or MJ beyond all recognition are amusingly enough often the ones that think "Ricing" a car is inappropriate.

As for the driving vid. Meh, I have seen worse. Heck, as a teenager, I did worse; we all did. If you say you didn't you are either a really low adventure type or are lying to yourself ;)

Sonic, probably not the direction I would have taken with the car, but, it's your car and your enjoyment and learning experience. Good Luck.

As a guy who's built lowriders, a 240sx, minitrucks, and raced SCCA in a Nissan pickup, I can and do sympathize...Just keep it safe out there on the public roads...and enjoy yourself.

Where at? I have a friend who has an 89 MJ who comes over frequently (we actually swapped cars the other day for a little while to compare them), and my roommate just bought a 2008 JK Wrangler Sahara Unlimited the other day. My Cougar may be the car I have the most attachment to, but I certainly love my Jeep's and always will.

As for the double-yellow thing, I decided to put an annotation in the video over that one clip making very clear that crossing the double yellow on open public roads is very dangerous and can kill someone. Again, we had full control over that small little section of road for our 1 minute "fun time". During the rest of the two-day drive, we never crossed a double yellow and never drove in any manner that would put any member of the public in any danger. I've got that entire day's worth of driving on my computer, and I would upload it if it wasn't so boring so that you guys could get a better idea of the context of that one small clip. In the other two driving clips in the video, you won't see me cross a double-yellow once, because I knew it was open public road that could have head on traffic. It is what it is. I don't drive like that on a daily basis, I take my most spirited driving to the proper racetracks, and have no compassion for the idiots who do drive like that on a regular basis and have killed people by doing so. Whether you believe me is your choice, all I know is that I do in fact look out for my fellow drivers and would never do anything that put anyone elses lives in danger.

Laugh and giggle and mock the advise from seasoned and experienced members that have probably jay walked with a red light to close calls, turned right on a red no turn only to be rear ended or hit a pedestrian, let their kid ride without a helmet or just on their head without the strap fastened, maybe you'll have your dad turn your body to prevent bed sores from occurring and blaming himself the rest of his life for having taken you to the strip but not teaching you not to race on the streets or canyons. But like some it's like !!!1 cause you'll never learn till you experience the tragedy. Then you'll say Why didn't I listen because I know more than they do and that'll never happen to me! The problem is, all though funny as it may seem, you guys have been raised with the Jack A$$ the movie mentality that no one ever gets hurt it's just TV.
