Rockin' XJ Jamboree Nov 22-23

so what you're saying is I won't be able to drive my jeep on the trails without an axle swap, gears and a locker? (or two)

I am so excited for this trip!!!! This run has been my corner stone in wheeling history for 7 years!!! I cant wait for the 8th!

Last year with my dad was awesome!

You do need lockers to run even the mild trails out there, so that should give you an idea of what to expect. Even the access roads to the trails are pretty challenging. Don't be fooled though, there are runs for everyone on Saturday so yes you can wheel without a doubt. Don't forget the sand dunes and all the high speed washes that add to the excitement too.

Ok, all these pics got me looking into some old ones of my own....

My first there trip in 2004, man I learned a lot that trip.....

....I learned things like you should weld the lower control arm brackets and add mini skids before trying out Wrecking Ball. Ooops.

And I also learned going to the desert doesn't mean it won't snow overnight. :shiver:

The wheeling is great, but it is also about hanging out with some great people.

The infamous bottle of Jager.

Also, watch out for the rocks, they tend to attack your Jeep at every turn.

hey, does this thing cost anything other than gas, food and what you want to in raffle tickets?
Free Camping!
Free Trails!
Free to go and drive whereever you want! (well . . . in side of the Johnson Valley OHV area!)

In the past they have done a big Dinner Saturday night so you might need some $$ if you want to eat the food, and bring some $$ for raffle tickets. I have heard this year you might get a chance to win driving a KOH buggy on a buggy only trail!!!

I don't know about you, but would LOVE to get a chance to beat on someones rig! Find some line that just looks ugly and not care because it is not mine:

Not in JV, but that is not his rig!

Yeah, that would be.........

The EPITOME OF AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I want to try and build up my axles by then so I can actually wheel the good trails!

Richard, I take it that you mean the "sort of a semi-challenging sightseeing run" is NOT a trail run and does NOT require lockers? (Because yes, all the Hammers and so forth are definitely locker territory...) The way you worded it sounds like "If you don't have lockers, you won't be leaving camp in that rig", but I don't think that's what you meant.

If that IS what you meant, I guess I was just lucky on previous visits to JV... the "easy run" I went on with another group in Spring '07 was in my stock height 90 XJ with 235/75/15 BFG ATKO's and rock rails. And 3 or 4 teen girls and a 70lb dog in there with me for most of it. D35 rear axle, no lockers. I had to have 2 guys stand on my driver's rock rail once to get over a passenger side rock, and dented the snot out of my crossmember, but no harm done. I missed GoatFest 07 because that Jeep burned to the floorboards in 10/07. GoatFest 06 I was there with the same XJ though, and did a "scenic run" up to the backside of Clawhammer. I don't even think I had rockrails back then.

I'm going this year, in a (you guessed it...) stock height 1998 2dr, same tires & rails (but now at least I have an 8.25). I sure won't be doing the Hammers in it, but hope to do an easy run on Sat. Or maybe I'll just go along in someone else's rig.
Carol

We always have an easy run, sort of a semi-challenging sightseeing run, on Sat. The trails there, even the easy ones, require lockers front and rear. You could look for an empty seat on Fri and ride shotgun.

I think he was talking about the actual trails in the area. The scenic/easy run is mostly running access roads and exploring the area rather than running a trail.

The easiest named trail that I have run was tackhammer, which has a small rock garden that will hang you up if you don't have at least one full locker.

Firiday trail runs will be mostly small informal groups running some of the trails. The organized runs with leaders divided into hard, moderate, easy, and such will happen on Saturday only. I would say just come out, find some XJs with similar equiptment, and spend the day with them having fun at a level you are comfortable with.

Yup!!! That was me (white XJ, smoked glass) with my hatch up in the middle of the group.

Some photos from the top of Claw from that same 2006 run:

Can you find your rig?

Actually, what I meant was a semi-challenging scenic run for stock or near stock rigs. :)

That's what I thought... But it almost sounded like "if you don't have lockers, don't bother showing up because there's nowhere you can go" And I know that's not true.

See you there!

less then 3 weeks away!

Photos never show how big it really is. Just look at the passenger side rear, the rock is over the top of the rig, now go stand next to the back of your XJ, think if it had 37's on it. Now see if you understand how big that rock on the right is:

It is so close I can almost smell after shock:

I can almost see Andy running the line then comming back and pointing and laughing at me:

I will be wish'in I could take the tippy lines in a rental rig:

Get it done people less then 3 weeks, could be your last chance at JV EVER!

unfortunately, it's not lookin' good for me to go... I broke stuff on my rig doing stuff that shouldn't have broken it... I"m doing a 44/9" swap now... hopefully there's a next year!

mine looks kinda like this right now...

yikes...

I spent 5 hours 'working on it' tonight, and only got the computer mounted, and the battery re-located...
