My "Hero" Blog

Yeah like is right. Mild 1/8 should do. I was able to hammer it flat enough on the side. Maybe tomorrow ill have time to grab some steel and plate it otherwise I'll have to wait till Monday. How do you guys go about welding by the gas tak and lines?? Any precautions?

Hahah sam I wish! Leafs will have to do for now though!

Got the springs removed, shackle boxes removed, and the factory shackle boxes cut out today.

Springs come into some shop in Auburn on Tuesday. And will hopefully be installed the same day.

My Cantina prep list consists of:
Fan shroud
New power steering pump
Leaf springs
Shackle boxes
New rear shocks
Double shear track bar mount
Check the front end for cracks
Check all steering bolts
Drill out and install new steering box spacer

Should be doable!

Are you going to do a traction bar? Im looking at options right now. Got some money coming my way soon. Have a very long list that includes a traction bar and building the tons in my garage

I don't know yet. I figured I would get the BDS springs installed and then see if I have wrap issues and go from there. I'm thinking I will be fine with the new setup.

I'll probably give that a shot Pat. Seems like wet rags are my only option.

buy big red :gee:

Mmmmmmm yes please!

Been plating the rear frame where it's buckling tonight. Relocaters and springs should be installed and ready to rock tomorrow.

No problem gordo. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I plated the frame in the back, installed those relocaters, and threw the springs in. She's got a bit of a prerunner stance but it'll do for this weekend. I'm using a 1.5" lift shackle.

Can anybody give me a measurement from the ground to the bottom of their fuel door? And tell me what lift and tire size you have? Trying to compare to see how much lift I actually have.

You want to measure from the top of the axle tube to the bottom frame above the factory bumpstops. That is the proper way to measure lift height. Tire size would be in play if you measure from the ground.

Thanks for the link Gordo. Ill check against those numbers and see what I'm at.

So I went to the Rubicon for the Cantina on the Con, which is a big fundraiser for the Rubicon Trail. I met up with a whole bunch of different groups and different people out there and had a freaking blast. We started at Loon at 11PM Friday night and wheeled in to Spider. Got settled into camp by 2:30 AM. The next morning we wheeled back out to the spillway to get tacos at Cantina, and then wheeled back into spider to go swimming. From there the initial grouip split and I continued on with another rig to meet a bunch of my friends at Buck. Buck was insane. Then that group ditched out Sunday morning to grab Tacos at the spillway and I headed out to the Rubicon Springs with another rig and stayed the night there on Sunday. We were up bright and early Monday to head up Cadillac Hill and out Tahoe.

I let my roommate drive when we got to the springs so I could take a few pictures. We went on a firewood gathering mission and were sure to make it fun.

Heres a video of our shenanigans

The jeep did great all weekend, with only a few minor issues. I think I have a bad hub or two in the front because something up there is making a god awful noise. My fingers are crossed that it is something as simple as a unit bearing. Also, my gas tank randomly leaks. I think it may be coming from a seam. Ill have to drop the tank and check it out. And lastly my passenger side UCA bushing is toast. The bolt is resting on the metal casing.

The BDS Springs seemed to work great. I need to fine tune my bumpstops by adding around 2 inches, but they were very smooth and felt very solid. I need new shocks back there and it'll be dialed.

Once I catch up with school stuff, I'm hoping to tear the jeep down real quick and prep it for another run in a few weeks!

I think your guna be tearing down the jeep and building it back up the night before your next trip ;)

Glad you had fun bro, part of me wishes i kept going with you to buck and part of me says it was a good thing i stayed at soup. I think this past weekend might be my last con trip for the year, gotta focus on fixing her and then school and other projects
