My "Hero" Blog

I love the look of H2 rims but my main concern is how far my hubs would be sticking out. I was hoping for something with 4" backspacing or so to give the hub some extra protection. Is that not something to be worried about?

Hub protection is definitely something to design for. I am at 4 3/4" back space and occasionally hit my hubs and it doesn't take much to crack them. 4" would probably be good but I wouldn't go any more. I ended up making some rubber covers for my hubs that I zip tie on when I lock the hubs.

Nothing wrong with square tube. That is what Clayton builds and they are one of the best in the business. RS carries the threaded tube inserts meow, I believe.
For gears, I would maybe check pirate. Or, for new rwkhaus.

Kevin, Just found this near me. Not sure if still available tho.

I swear if regular people (non jeepers) read jeep threads our jeep related jokes would not be funny to them but I cant enough of it.

Josh are you familiar with that area by nevada city? its like a BLM area, wheeling , FOG, friends of greenhorn? maybe?

Got some goodies in the mail recently

No wonder I'm always broke haha

Very nice.

Nice setup Kevin. Super sweet.

Well I moved back to Sac for school and transferred my axles to their new resting place.

Got the passenger side knuckle off. Ill press out the ball joints and drop off the knuckle at partsmike to get milled/drilled/tapped, hopefully this weekend.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have all of the tabs/brackets cut off and the whole axle cleaned up and wire wheeled.

Speaking of cleaning up the axle and associated parts, has anybody ever heard of/done electrolysis to remove rust from old parts?

I went wheeling at Prairie City today with my roommate. I forgot how fun that place is for it's size and convenience.

I was playing on some rocks near the back side if the park (inside the race track) and when I went to push the clutch in, I felt a pop in the pedal and lost pressure to the clutch. I stomped on the brake and managed to stall it before I wedged myself between two rocks. Then I popped the hood, checked the clutch fluid, looked for leaks and cracked bellhousings and found nothing wrong. Pumped the clutch a few times and got pressure and then backed out of it, wheeled for another hour, and drove home.

So my question is: what the heck would cause this? How does a clutch just lose pressure and then go back to normal?

I'm running a duralast autozone master, and the factory slave cylinder.

how is the torque on the bell housing bolts. For some reason my gut tells me somehow your throw bearing got stuck/caught then suddenly went…just a guess.

Possibly an air bubble in the line ??

Bell housing bolts were torqued to spec with blue loctite from the get-go this time> ill check the torque on them again sometime this weekend though.

Im thinking it may have been air in the line, although im really not sure. Im going to pull the slave out and inspect it and bleed it again this weekend as well.

Right now I'm looking for some quality replacement ball joints for my dana 44.What is out there with a lifetime warranty or even a multiple year warranty? I cant justify buying synergy ball joints, but if I can get some quality ball joints that will last me a year or two that I can get free replacements for, I think that might be the way to go. Im hoping to keep the cost down around the price of factory spicers, so just over $100 for both sides. Is there anything out there that meets the criteria? Any experience with Napa Gold? Raysbestos? MOOG? TRW?

Spicers. Or maybe the alloy USA ones on amazon

I totally forgot about the alloy USA ones, but I cant seem to find them for the ford dana 44. Do they only make them for jeeps?

d44s were in waggys thats a jeep right?
I think serious off road has them?
shoot I see what you mean. I don't see them for the 44 anywhere on serious site. I can only find them for dana 30s. hmm. thats weird.
just go spicer man.

Backing up a few posts you were asking about electrolysis to remove rust.
I haven't tried it but I found something that works well enough for me. Take a five gallon bucket (or any container big enough for the part) and drop your parts in it. Now go to the grocery store and buy 4 gallons of White Vinegar, about $15. Dump it over the parts, scrub for a few minutes, let it soak. Scrub a little, let it soak.
The vinegar will eat the rust right off a knuckle. Scrubbing just speeds it up, allowing the vinegar to penetrate easier / faster. Worked wonders on a D30 knuckle I had laying around.

Are these the ball joints you are looking for?
