I know that with a 242 t-case that the toe is supposed to be zero.. I would maybe go with that and see how it works?

Not 100% Sure how the tansfercase makes any difference On the pinion angle. Pinion On a 3 maybe 4" lift should be changed up. To about 4 degrees maybee just not 100% sur

I am going to be able to pull the jeep up on the alignment rack on wednesday.

Pulled off the freeway today while going to work and hit a bump and got death wobble again. Idk what is going on. I'll be setting the toe at 0 Wednesday and if that (or inward toe) doesn't solve it, then I have no idea what I'll do.

obviously this means your gonna have to go full hydro and tons... its the only plausible solution

yep. thats true dude. hows the DW now?

Connor, thats the only other option I can come up with as well. Ryan seems to think thats the way to go too.

Wobble was fine for the rest of the day.. just that one time on the stupid offramp. I think Ill order up a heavy duty steering stabilizer just for kicks. Cant hurt I guess.

i would try the stabilizer just for the hell of it. i know its a band aid, but if the wobble goes, away, then i could care less personally if everything else is gone through.

Death wobble is back. What the fawk, this is really starting to get to me.

Still haven't had time to get it up on the alignment rack at work, but I'm starting to think that the toe isn't the problem.

Have you had someone turn the wheel back and forth while you watch everything. Only move the whell about 1/8 turn each way, that way youll be able to see if something is loose.

I only ask because i dont remember you ever saying that you did this but rather just started checking everything.

Yep, I have. I can't see anything moving/any extra play when I do that test though.

I have been able to narrow this down a little bit.

I noticed the death wobble went insane as soon as I put a new leaf spring pack in the rear. I dont think the height is the problem though, as I have been fine with everything from 2" of lift to 6.5" of lift in the rear while the front stayed at 4.5". I'm starting to think maybe the axle is tweaked sideways a bit more than my other springs were - which could put my alignment out of whack front to rear.

Doesn't sound very plausible though. I dunno lol.

Do you have a drop pitman arm. if your using the stock one itll cause dw really easy.

How would the stock arm cause issues? Just from bad steering angles?

I'd say my steering angles are pretty good :D

This isn't very true. I ran a stock pitman with stock steering on 7.5 inches and didnt ever get death wobble.

so did you try another set of tires yet?

you're sure 100% the track bar bolts are all tight as hell? all of them?

bent housing?

whats your caster?

bad ball joints causing bad caster between driver side and pass side?

the only time I've ever had any DW was when the frame side track bar mount came loose. tightened all bolts and it didn't come back until those bolts got loose again. welded bracket to frame and now its all good.

Alright my finaly option would be a bent housing....

I have not tried another set of tires yet...
I aligned my jeep today at work and printed out a sheet with all the specs but forgot to grab it on my way out!

From what I remember:
Toe is set at 0.01* toe in
Caster is the same side to side (which would make me believe that the CA bushings are still in alright condition)
Camber (/ \) is NOT the same side to side. One was significantly less than the other side. If I grabbed the stinkin paper, I would know how bad it was, but I forgot.

So this leads me to believe that my ball joints on one side are bad, although my other tests proved that wrong... I will have to go back through (again) and quadruple check my ball joints. What tactics do you guys use to check ball joints?

Just replace them. For about 80 bucks, if i remember correctly. Also if youve never done them before it only takes about half a day to be On the safe side.

Soooooo my death wobble seems to be gone! I have it toed in 0.01* and haven't had any issues since. I get a shimmy every now and then but nothing full bore. I still have a steering stabilizer waiting to go on whenever I can figure out a way to mount it!

I ended up wheeling the Slick Rock trail again this weekend. I was the only one that I saw going in from the Alpine side. I ran into a bunch of people from the San Joaquin Jeepers and another 4x4 group. Good times were had at the Stair Steps...... as always :D

Oh, I walked the steps too. I make myself proud.

Heres the few pics my dad and I took from the day on the trail (not many :()

The new "gatekeeper" at the bottom of the steps. Even the built rigs were having trouble with it.

Some dude with a badass buggy was there too!

Pics of Deer Valley and Boards Crossing to come some other time...

So on Sunday the family headed down to Deer Valley. Because I didn't want to wheel alone, the original plan was to park at the bottom and hike up to the top of the first ridge - about a mile in. Luckily, when we got there we just barely caught up with a guy in a Suzuki Samurai running the gatekeeper... so we decided to tag along.

Here are a few pictures from throughout the trail ride:

Heres a shot at the trailhead. This was on the way out, but seemed fitting for the first pic!

At the fork about .4 miles in, I took the left ("hard"/fun) side.

Soon enough, we made it to the top of the first ridge (where NAXJA usually stops for a break). YES, you can get this far legally.

Back at the bottom, my dad got a bit trigger happy with the camera. Here are a bunch of shots of the gatekeeper.

It ended up being a pretty killer day on the trail. No broken parts, but my sliders sure took a beating!
