Wow you mean I'm not the only one here trying to figure out how the hell to pay for all this shiat!

I checked into that front end & it's a custom currie housing built to run a standard 9" flipped over for a reversed engine moon buggy. A standard 9" right side up won't just drop in. The pinion will also be offset the wrong direction making the inner axles worthless. The only way to do that frontend would be to steal the outer stuff & build a new housing. You'd have to try to offset the housing far enough over so that you could retain the inner shafts...

I didn't read through this entire thing, but as I was sitting on the pot I came across an old issue of 4 wheel drive and SUV magazine addressing this very thing... Dana 60 hybrid conversion, 1 ton toughness for your 44... it's the July 2005 issue volume 21 issue 07... backissues order through [email protected] if anyone is interested.

I think the 8" case that currie is using for their hi pinion can't be had in the larger bearing required to run 35 splines. Don't hold me to that it came up when I was shopping quite a while ago. At the time I passed on that axle because I didn't feel it was worth the money and not get 35 spline shafts.

Currie definitely has small bearing (31 spline) & large bearing (can be used with 31 or 35 spline) HP cases. Unfortunately, I've got the small bearing case, so I'll be calling True Hi9 sometime soon.

Think of it this way. At least you only have to buy one.

When you did the rear did you move to the larger shafts?

Yuns are bitches! I want that for my ass but cash is tight! Maybe when I hit the lottery! :weird:

Well, I pulled my front axle apart tonight. Maybe hitting a bomb crater and cracking my front housing was a blessing..........all of my ring gear bolts were loose.

The housing is slightly bent, I'm going to have it straightened before I weld it back up and add a truss. I bent up a piece of 1.5" to go across the top, and I'll plate from that to the tube, so it should be much stronger when it's finished. On the one side, besides having a crack in the housing where the tube goes into it, all the plug welds on that side are busted. Nice. :D

Fix it and sell it!

1 for Robbie, 1 for me. 2 for Robbie, 2 for me... :D

Seriously, those units are for temporary use, and then sadly, for one of them at least, I will be cutting the casting into sections for a proto die.

The 44 was intended to be temporary. It required the least amount of effort to get up and running. I'm still working on what the final config in front will be. It might actually live for awhile the way I drive right now.
