Incredible crash footage from Ohio I675

"...troopers say they are now investigating to see what role, if any, speed played in the crash"

If I had to guess, I'd say that speed played a significant role...

holy crap.

... and that's why you should never attempt to pass at over 100mph on the grass shoulder.

EDIT: yeah, hubs, I found that to be a real eye roller. No kidding, speed was a factor? really? he went airborne off the end of a guardrail, did a couple spins in midair, ripped the car into three pieces on the top of a bridge abutment, and there was any question of this?

ahhhhh, thats AWESOME!!!!

sometimes, when bad things happen to people, and they are hurt, all you can do is hope and pray everything turns out well for them.....

...in this situation, all i could do was watch it over and over and over, and then finally laugh. ya it sucks he is hurt, seriously hurt, but helllllooooooooo dumbass for takin that POS over 100 and thinking it was gonna end well...i dont think a movie crew could have made that car jump, hit, and spin any better than that kid did, and he did it on the fly....

bravo sir, bravo

Paging Mr. Darwin, Mr. Darwin you are needed on I-675!

awesome, it's a hard year to be a 19 year old driver.
Naw,...
That's not "19 year old".

It takes a special kind of stupid to hit a highway overpass at the TOP of the pillar.

Edit: I doubt it will happen, but it would be cool if the kids dad was sitting in a chair in his hospital room when the kid wakes up. "Son, your mom's been worried sick about you. 'You learn anything from that?"

Not only that but passing a cop in the process.
I guess if you're going to pass a cop doing over the legal speed limit,... Hell, might as well go all out!

he might have been trying to suicide on the bridge, not seeing the ramp

I'd bet that was a traffic choke point, nodded off, and woke up and swerved, hit the dirt/grass, got sucked into the wall, perfect launch.

Having lived there in Dayton, I know from experience that drivers will slam on their brakes if they see a cop anywhere, even if they were already doing under the speed limit. I've seen traffic jams because there was a cop watching the other side of the interstate. My guess is he was speeding and came around the turn, everyone in front of him was doing 20 under the limit and he didn't have time to stop. Usually the traffic through there moves about 70-75 mph.

There was hardly any traffic in front of the crash.

By "choke point" I meant slowing, can't really tell how fast the traffic was going there. Doesn't need to be slowed that much to make you freak out when traveling at a high rate of speed and suddenly being aware of all lanes having traffic at half your speed in them.

that reminded me of that movie DRIVEN, where that indy car rolls up on the other indy car's tire and launches into the bridge =)

that seemed like one of those " hey yall watch this" kind of accidents

I'm pretty sure they don't mean how speed played a role in the outcome. Instead they mean how speed played a role in the cause.

If you look you can see the brake lights turn on after he's airborne I'd say the speed was unrelated and the cause involves distraction. fallen cig, cellphone, dvd player... Yeah that's right some people are that stupid. I responded to a rollover where the driver had a dvd player playing shrek 2 on the dash.

I was kinda curious as to WTF actually happened, some searching around dug up the story from a local news station...

Apparently, the crash didn't kill him
According to the article, it sounds like this kid wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed... but he's definitely a tool lol.

Highlights of the story:
This crash happened on his way to wherever from being released after drug charges (cop found marijuana and paraphernalia in his car after finding him, 19, and a 15 year old girl in his car with a bottle of alcohol in a parking lot the night before).
Also got a ticket for doing 90 in a 65... nine days after being cited for "failure to control" in a crash.

Guess ya can't fix stupid :dunno:

In that case I think he knocked over his bong and tried to recover it before it spilled bong water all over the place.

On the bright side now he won't have to clean it up.
