i hate really hate fords...

The problem with Honky's experience is he is driving the lowest of low fleet 4cyl POS Rangers you can get.

I have had four of them. Loved them!

My brother in-law is still driving my '92 and he is not one for maintenance.

I loved the '01 X-Cab 4.0 4x4 I traded for my XJ. The only reason I got rid of it was because I was starting to realize I needed something a little more trail capable. In order to upgrade the Ranger I was going to have to cut off the front suspension and replace it with a custom coi-over. That was a little to radical for my blood.

If I could have afforded it I would have kept the Ranger for my DD.

I have driven one of those POS that Honky's driving and they are amazingly different from the models I had.

Wrong, it's a v6, but i do realize that is has been used and abused, but still. I have even driven new fords (when i worked at a shop) and most of them rode like crap too.

I literally broke a bolt off on the drivers seat where it mounts to the floor once at launch and it was not supercharged.
Ummm... That's supposed to speak to the quality of Fords? AND, as nifty as those were in '93, they're kinda pathetic now: 235hp? If that breaks ANYTHING "at launch" there's a manufacturing defect. Sorry. :)

Oh, and there's a BIG difference between the Ford 3.0 V-6 and the 4.0 V-6.

That's rather curious... I often switch seats with one of my kiddos -- both drive XJ's -- and they ride rather rough compared to my 'Sploder off road. I don't spill my coffee while wheeling -- they're trying to keep their heads from banging off the windows, not to mention not even trying to have an open beverage...

I do know that the seats in some Fords suck -- but so do the ones in most vehicles that are spec'd for fleet use. Plain jane vinyl, no bolsters, etc.

Anyhow -- back at 'cha

Yes! The 3.0 is waaaay underpowered. My dad has one in his '92 Ranger 4x4.

Also the Ford 7.5" axle (came with 3.0L Rangers) is a steaming pile.

Sorry Honky! I guess I should not have assumed it was the 4cyl. It is still a fleet POS though. And if it is the 3.0 you would be better off with the 4cyl. The 3.0 is one of the biggest POS motors I have dealt with.

I am confused about the turning thing though! The only thing I have ever driven that would make tighter turns than my Rangers is my XJ. Maybe that's the problem, you are comparing the Ranger to the XJ.

Also, mine rode great for a truck. Much better than my XJ.

Oh well. Arguing about cars is worthless. Everyone has had good/bad experiences with different vehicles. I for one would never own another Toyota after my horrible experience with the wifes Camry. Lots of others love them.

I agree. Ive never liked anything ford made except the Superduties. My family is full of Ford products (05 navigator, 04 aviator, 06 king ranch powerstroke) with me as the exception (02 avalanche, 97 xj). Both lincolns have had electrical gremlins and have interior rattles and squeaks already.

In my opinion, the 7.3 turbo powerstroke is probably the best diesel engine ever put in a truck. I also love the Allison 6 speed automatic that chevy has behind the duramax. My dream truck would contain the 7.3 turbo with a Banks 6 gun, Allison 6 speed automatic, and a 4.3:1 atlas II. Dana 70 rear, Dana 60 front. Put it all in a Chevy Truck and hand over the keys please.

Here's my History with Fords:

88 Full size 4x4 Bronco with 351W: Nice power but blew up 6 months after I traded it for my 70 GS

88 4 cyl Taurus. Body, Steering, everything sucked. Ran on a blown heater core for months and somehow managed to get 275K miles out of the motor. Sold to my Aunt and Uncle. My uncle thinks he knows how to work on cars and caused the motor to catch on fire.

89 Ford Probe GT Turbo. This was my favorite ford (that I've owned). 2.2L Turbo motor that was actually built by Mazda which explains the reliability and durability. after 175K miles, I had my cam belt too tight which caused the cam's belt sprocket to fail and f'd up my valves. Handled great though.

91 Ford Exploder. Flat out a POS! felt like I didnt have any shocks. blew a head gasket at 115K miles. Put in a rebuilt Jasper and the motor ran great but the tranny was already hosed. Rust bucket.

Their full size diesels don't count IMO. Since from what i've heard, they are made at completely different plants from the other vehicles.

We have a ford large truck plant here in Louisville, I know everything larger than a f150 is made there.

There are two Ford plants in Louisville -- one makes the F250 and larger trucks (Superduty line) and the other makes the Explorer line. They are located on opposite sides of town, hire completly different workers, and build completely different products. I drive by both on occaision and it is always a wonder to see the huge lots full of built and ready-to-ship vehicles. As a result, Fords are very common here in Louisville, if for no other reason, the employee discounts for a huge workforce and their extended family.

Jeeps on the other hand are hard to come by around here -- yes, they're here, but we're down to just a couple dealers in an area that runs over a million in population. They've always had problems with marketing. Jeep has also almost always had problems with identity. Who exactly are they? Jeep -- Willys -- AMC -- Ford -- GM -- Chrysler -- or something else? When I was still turning wrenches, you had to give a serial number just to know which part you needed for what. It could be almost any manufacturer out there on almost any year Jeep product. That is not to say that Jeeps are horrible vehicles -- they are not, but they are JUST vehicles like almost any other, some good, some not so, some standing out from the crowd, others... well... I have a couple hanging around that just won't go, no matter what I throw at them. I'm sure that a few of you do as well.

OK, I'll come clean on this. There is a Ford that I'd own:

Click the picture for more :D

Anybody ELSE around here driven a new Ford GT?

:D

Oh, and did you here the story about why Ford can't call the GT a GT40? The damn plastic model car company owns the rights to the name and wanted way too much royalties to allow Ford to use the name again, so Ford told them to jump in a lake. Too bad.......and stupid on their part.

Nice idea. :)

BTW, I get a kick out of the Chevy Allison lovers. The smallest Allison trans is the 2000 series that's used in medium duty trucks. The new Allison 1000 series is used exclusively in light duty Chevy trucks (2500/3500). GM owns Allison. If you own the name, you can call the trans anything you want. It's a nice trans, but it's brilliant marketing. It seems to have about the same failure rate as the new Ford 5 speed TorqueShift trans.

Dont worry.... All the Ford guys hate Jeeps! :-) HAHA!

Im not kidding.

Seriously.

Im a convert, switched from Ford to XJ/Jeep, and was the best thing I ever did.

What?????? I use a ford to tow my heep, love them both.

a buddy of mine has a focus and he's on his second motor in 100,000 miles

every single time i talked to him he was working on it. the brand new motor he got for it will never run right. when he gets it going alright, then something else goes out like his rack and pinion unit. i'd seriously hate to be him.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the Focus, unless you want to drop a V-8 into one and convert it to rear wheel drive...................

Funny what info is passed around. Focus beat both Toyota Corrolla and Honda Civic in J.D. Powers initial quality study for a couple of years, it was the top rated car in it's category in initial quality.
