There are two Ford plants in Louisville -- one makes the F250 and larger trucks (Superduty line) and the other makes the Explorer line. They are located on opposite sides of town, hire completly different workers, and build completely different products. I drive by both on occaision and it is always a wonder to see the huge lots full of built and ready-to-ship vehicles. As a result, Fords are very common here in Louisville, if for no other reason, the employee discounts for a huge workforce and their extended family.
Jeeps on the other hand are hard to come by around here -- yes, they're here, but we're down to just a couple dealers in an area that runs over a million in population. They've always had problems with marketing. Jeep has also almost always had problems with identity. Who exactly are they? Jeep -- Willys -- AMC -- Ford -- GM -- Chrysler -- or something else? When I was still turning wrenches, you had to give a serial number just to know which part you needed for what. It could be almost any manufacturer out there on almost any year Jeep product. That is not to say that Jeeps are horrible vehicles -- they are not, but they are JUST vehicles like almost any other, some good, some not so, some standing out from the crowd, others... well... I have a couple hanging around that just won't go, no matter what I throw at them. I'm sure that a few of you do as well.
