Looking good Bill!

Took a ride near AC last night, picked up an engine for the WJ i bought. This is reported to have 15K on a rebuild before Jeep was totaled.

Meant to comment how good this looks earlier Mark. So, what's the backstory? Frame swap because of rot for Dad or?

Thank you, it took a lot of work and time to get that to look that good. The finish on the frame looks really nice in person, I used my spray gun and coated it with Eastwood's rust encapsulator, then 1 1/2 coats of Extreme Chassis Black. Looks so much better than "rust"

Yep, frame swap for dad because of rot. I have a ton of pictures of the tear down, fixing up, and reassembly, I'll probably make a separate thread to showcase what we did, just because.

Here are a few highlights of why it was swapped.

All 6 inserts in the frame for the belly pan pulled out due to rust. The belly pan was welded to the frame on both sides.

You do good work Mark! New England hasnt been kind to Jeeps, it seems to me YJ's seem to last a bit longer up there. At least the one i bought from Boston did.

Well, Overland XJ is cut up. John505 and JohnGus were gonna take a ride over and help me with this tomorrow, but i started this am and just kept cuttin. I was surprised just how easy it was. Just need to pull the rear suspension and axle out from under it and get the scrap out of here. The WJ engine swap starts this week.

Started cuttin and my neighbor walks across the street, tells me had he known i was gonna cut it he and a few Firehouse buds could have gotten some training in... now he tells me. ;)

I cant bring my self to scrap the rear doors, hood etc.. their too clean. I'll find somebody who can use them.

so what are you doing with the old xj fame and stuff..?

He cut it all up and sent it to the scrapyard.

If you are at work, you probably can't see the pictures he posted of it.

Thanks John. No, New England is not kind to many Jeeps. The fact that this one lived it's life on a beach and there are no drain holes didn't help at all. There was a ton of sand in there when I looked inside that huge rot hole.

Didnt take to scrap yet, will do on next rain day. Concentrating on the engine swap.

TJ body in good shape? When i was considering a body swap for XJ's drivetrane i found a NJ TJ.. same condition as your Dads, i passed.

I did a partial rebuild of the ZJ alternator over the past couple of days. I was seeing voltage fluctuate and also getting periodic code 41 ("Alternator field control circuit open or shorted"). Testing showed that one of the nuts on the field terminals at the back of the alternator was loose allowing the wire to break contact, and close inspection showed that the threads were stripped. I still had the old 90-amp stock alternator, so I pulled the module out of it and moved it over. Also bought a new brush pack from a local rebuilder and cleaned out the innards. All fixed for less than $10, and works good now.

Also rerouted the hose from the A/C compressor hose to the condenser, which opened up some more space in the engine bay.

Re-valved my front Fox 2.0s. Went from 30/90 to 55/85. Super easy to do.

Cleaned up and ready to install...almost. All four motor mounts i have are cracked pretty good, i dont want to wrestle with them later so i'll wait for a new set. Was hoping to hear this run this weekend.. I'll just detail more than i probably would have.
