GUNS & AMMO

Congrats Doug! Nothing like being part of a group of XJ enthusiasts that used to be well armed until their unfortunate canoeing accidents. Maybe the club should get a name change....... NAXJ AR A?

Man, the rivers must be just orange with rust these days........ :D

why I refuse to get on any "lists", including that of CC lists (understanding the current assurances of CO sheriff's that such lists remain quite confidential) -- note the interactive map included with the article specifically identifying the exact location of every household with a registered weapon... scary shite (and this is an internet publication run by Gannett Broadcasting, the owner of the bulk of TV stations nationwide, and much of the newsprint, including USA Today:

just to update my outrage with some hypocrisy... the a-hole "news"paper that published the list of gun owners apparently got a good deal of less-than-friendly mail in response. SO, they've hired ARMED GUARDS to protect themselves... I swear, you can't make this stuff up...:wow:

Armed guards defending the right of the newspaper to print that info huh? That truely is ironic and funny.

 armed guards protecting a 1st amendment right to free speech, I have absolutely no problem with. The fact that these asshats don't see the hypocrisy of making publicly available the names of all gunowners on the auspices that gun control is a good thing, i.e. folks shouldn't be armed to protect themselves, while essentially arming themselves for self-protection is f'ing laughable.

Anyone know anything about breacher chokes and 870's? I've never dealt with a choke on a shotgun, even though I've shotgunning since about 9 years old.

Yes.

They're a ridiculous tacticool accessory that serves no purpose to most people other than show that you desire form over function.

:firedevil

Speaking as someone who has used a shotgun since he was 12.

I've never dealt with a choke on a shotgun, even though I've shotgunning since about 9 years old.

Next thing ya' know, Fred will claim he was shotgunning from the womb. "Yeah, I'd sneak my tiny little fingers out, and Pappy would hand me his ole .410 single shot."

:roflmao: "we walked to school, uphill, both ways, AND WE LIKED IT!"

Screw you. I had a single shot 20 gauge when I was 9 years old. I'm 61, you do the math, junior.

If you can tell me how it decreases the function, please do. Otherwise, shut the %^&* up.

870's are great shotgunsover 10,000,000 have been sold ,they are reasonable priced and dependable as hell' you can get them at walmart for around 400 for a 870 express nylon stock 18 " barrel 7 round tube ,just a bead sight ,, i can see no need for the breacher choke or any of that tacticle b/s , ,I like them so much i just got one

I agree, the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 are probably the best all around shotgun platforms out there. Reasonably priced, super reliable, and easily adapted/reconfigured to suit a variety of needs/wants.

I wish I hadn't ran over my 500 during that Jeeping accident that one weekend.

Man, what is it with the 500 (and Maverick 88 shotguns) with accidents. I was shooting my maverick 88 this past weekend and someone scared me, mine went into a strip pit where I was shooting. It was a deep strip pit also, couldn't see it after it went down. I will really miss it also, i loved it for shooting clays.

Well the one I was thinking about getting and going all tacticool on, was 870 Express Magnum. I see for any choke what looks like a threaded piece that goes in the barrel. I have shot two browning over and unders, a remington 20 gauge, and the single shot 20 I had for a first shotgun. None of the had threads in the barrel, and I didn't feel any threads in the 870 barrel. Thus the question. I do like the 870. I liked the Belgium Browning, 12 gauge, over and under, trap set-up, better. :)
