GUNS & AMMO

From my experience and that of some.friends Kimberly is nothing.to brag about aside.from its finish... put a few rounds through the ria and it felt good.

In the end man a 1911 is an over 100yr old design and pretty simplistic. How much is it really going to cost to make? If I was planning on modifying it and/or competing with it that'd be one thing. I just want a rugged handgun that's a good shooter and reliable with good stopping power. I'd be perfectly content with an old military issue one.

Has anyone seen/shot the Ruger 1911 that came out last year? It is super cheap ($629) but the problem is Ruger is way behind in production so they are hard to find.

I'd stand behind a Ruger, they make guns that tend to work.

I just don't understand all the hype over a 1911 gun. the design is so outdated & there are so many better designed guns on the market.

Not my favorite. We were issued Mini-14's several years ago to carry on duty. The one I was issued and 4 others were sent back to Ruger many times (mine 3 times) because of failed extractions resulting in double feeds and jammed magazines. Extractors were getting broken trying to unjamb the mess. When we got a shipment of former D.O.D. AR-15's..... suddenly all of the Mini-14's got returned to our armory........

Uh oh...... he went there. Who's got the popcorn? :D

If you don't know then there's no making you see the error of your statement.

Kinda like saying the M1 Garand was a useless WWII rifle.

I was just saying a 1911 is heavy to carry & there are lighter 45's on the market.

The major design of the 4.0 was outdated when it was put into a Cherokee ;)

From what I understand the Mini 14 is a lot better than it used to be. That's the only complaint I've consistently heard about Ruger (other than people who can't figure out how to break down a Stanard/Mk II/Mk III) and it's always been targeted toward older Minis. I have two Ruger pistols and would like to add on a modern Mini 14 one day so I can have a less scary looking 5.56 rifle.

One thing about modern guns that best annoying is they're all fatties. The 1911 has a nice slim profile.

To each their own, but it's hard to argue with a 100yr old platform that is still a consistent performer and top choice. The bottom line of the 1911 is hard to contend with. With today's compact 1911s, the choices are only getting better.

I have/do carry a modern mid-frame .40 and a compact pocket pistol .380. If I can conceal the .40 with 15rds, I'm not too worried about the weight of a 1911.

You would base your opinion on a whole brand over one model? That's like saying all XJ's are pieces of crap because for two years they had GM V6's in them.

I can't stand their semi auto pistols either. They're friggin' huge and heavy. And..... They're STILL making them with lanyard eyelets. Who still uses a lanyard???

Not saying I hate the Mini-14..... I own a pretty bad-*** one myself. It's just not my favorite ....... and a big clunky heavy Ruger will never serve as a duty weapon for me.

Am i the only one that likes a lil weight on my pistol? I can't do the polymer stuff. I like weight and reliability.

The weight is a sign of reliability.

My Glock has a Lanyard eyelet. So does my Beretta.

I believe they're in fairly common usage in Europe still. They also still use big rain flap holsters too.

..........And I refuse to own either of those pistols as well. Hmmmm, I'm sensing a theme here....... :shhh:

Just because they still use 'em don't make it right......... :D

My "Skully-ized" Mini-14. Still need to invest in optics for it, but it'll be a fun little plinker...... still haven't put a single round through it yet......... ;)

Not all of their pistols are big, clunky or heavy.

You know a lot of guys like Mini-14's because of their reliability. In fact they usually will come right out and say its not the best shooter but it always functions. I'm surprised you had trouble with one.

Well i mean i learned to shoot on large bore revolvers. heavy and big. Going from that type of consistency and accuracy to the almost wild and flimsy feel of newer polymer guns im just not a fan. i don't like heavy kick. push is fine. but crazy kick from the same ammo im not fond of.
