GUNS & AMMO

Both of my rugers, the 10/22, and the Mark II are pretty reliable with crappy ammo and the STOCK magazines. Aftermarket mags, not so much. With good 22 ammo, nary a problem, the fancy stuff in the 100 round plastic containers.

We'll see, I haven't heard from the seller yet. These things are sold out everywhere. I found 1 on GunsAmerica from a dealer in OH.

After seeing what my buddy just went through dealing with Sig when his had a defect in the frame I decided that's one brand of gun I will never own.

I still liked the gun he bought and while I was looking at one at a dealer the salesman told me almost exactly the same story. Sent it back wait for a phone call. No phone call so he emails them.. No email back so he calls again only to be told it can't be fixed and they will have to send him a new one. New ones won't be on a production run for another four months.

No thanks. I'll stick to companies who treat their customers with a little respect.

I've known two people with Mosquito's and neither one were happy, FYI. I shot both of them and they weren't really reliable and quite finicky. Sure, they look cool but that's about it IMO. Now, just about any .22 semi- will be somewhat finicky but I wasn't impressed. I have a Browning Buckmark that I love shooting. It has the occasional stovepipe, but it fails far less than the two Mosquito's I have experience with.

Whenever people have issues with a .22 I always suggest ammo first. There is such a wide variety of ammo quality on that caliber and that really messes with some autoloaders. CCI mini mags just about always work though.

That said my Ruger Mk. III will eat anything, even crappy, crappy Remington Thunderbolt (Still have a 525 box of that, hate to shoot it because it leaves so much debris behind).

I agree. I was going to qualify my statement, but forgot. I can shoot anything through my Buckmark as well. I don't recall what I tried through the skeeters. I typically just buy the Federal bulk pack at Walmart for my gun.

CCI mini mags are usually good because of the higher velocity, BUT my buddy's Walther P22 broke the slide using mini mags. He couldn't find much else that would run in the thing, so he started using mini mags. I don't recall how many rounds he had through it, but the slide cracked on the thing from those high-power rounds. Proceed with caution. He sold it after repair, and bought a Buckmark. Has been happy since.

I like the Ruger as well. A little more difficult to tear down for thorough cleaning, but pretty reliable like the Buckmark. Maybe a little more so.

Reading online it sounds like the SIG specifically calls for the CCI round and people who run it have few issues. Most are saying as long as its clean and using the better ammo it works great.

I want a buck mark for myself but my wife wants a pink gun and this was the only one I could find she like that I was willing to buy. I was looking into having one coated but that's just more money. I figure if we're unhappy with it we can sell it. These things are hard to find in stock so obviously there are plenty of women out there wanting a Pink pistol.

Pink gun for the wife, yeah right!

Actually you are very lucky that your wife is willing to get into shooting. My wife has no interest in guns and is always asking why do I need more since I only have 2 hands. She also does not understand the Jeep thing. Since we've only been married 18 years, I figure maybe someday she'll change. Right?

.22 MOSQUITO Sounds intimidating....................... :conceited

GSequoia said it right, if you want to buy one of the most reliable and accurate .22 long pistols, RUGER Mark series can not be beat, been around for a long time..............and you can pretend your are a German during WWII as it looks like an old Luger. :D

Buds guns has one for less the $280

My new project.

I love my AR's but in wanting a larger more accurate caliber preferably .308 I found the AR platform for .308 too proprietary per manufacture. I decided I wanted a simple Bolt action. If you remember I really wanted to do a RUGER Scout rifle, but the price was holding me back.

Then I came across this; SAVAGE AXIS SB TR .308, 4 rd detachable magazine, synthetic black stock, 20" barrel....."Threaded" as SAVAGE advertises for silencers. Got pretty good reviews across the gun world.

(I can only presume "TR" means threaded barrel & "SB" means short barrel.)

PEEEEEEEERFECT! and only $300 ducks!

This is the look I'm going for with my next AR build:

Notice this skull on the magwell, that's what makes it look tuff!

"Skulls" always makes things look tuffer................ fits your well my boy. :jester:

One good note, it looks so much like a toy you could open carry it and people will just think you are a "weirdo sexual confused individual carrying a girls toy rifle around." ...........................although the cops might stop you just cause they think you are a pervert or something. :shhh:

Actually "CHEAPER THAN DIRT" Blog has this cool write about the new "Pink" phenomenon. PINK GUNS

They have this ad picture that I find kind of odd, makes me think okay, then I think "Anti-Gun" fanatics could have a hay day with it;

Dutch, have you looked at the Walther P22? There are a plethora of pink / pink camo options there. There's some talk about the zinc slide long term durability, but I think the newer models have addressed that.

To me the color doesn't matter, its not my gun. If it makes my wife happy then so be it, and as I've never shot one before I'll even put the thing in my hands while out in the woods. My wife is all about black and pink so it fits her well. Obviously for my self I favor the tan/earth brown coloring. Is it any less obvious a color? Not really, but it fits me and what I like.

My buddy was giving me a hard time yesterday for even wanting a .22 for myself and buying one for the wife. He was like, "I bought my wife a gun (Taurus PT145) that'll actually protect her." and "I buy guns to kill, not go play with." Well thats fine and dandy, but that means he spent X amount of money on things that have never been used as intended whereas I spend my money on something that gets used. My wife likes shooting so it gives us something to do together. As most of us married folk know its sometimes hard to find things to do together and you can only do dinner and a movie so much.

I did go ahead and buy the Mosquito today, I'll spend the extra 2$ on the CCI ammo for it and if it still gives us issues I'll sell it and get my wife a buckmark or 10/22. I want a 10/22 and buckmark or ruger mark for myself as well.

EDIT:
I did look at the Walther but its 100$ more give or take and I didn't want to spend that kind of money on a damn .22 pistol. I didn't even want to spend the money on the SIG but if it makes the wife happy (and gets me some blowies :D ) then so be it.

I was digging on the look of this one, plus you can get a GIANT magazine for it.

I do have a thing for Rugers, and I'd like to try the SR22 pistol.

I just bought an SR-22. It's been flawless with about 500 rounds through it so far.

Only issue I had is the trigger wouldn't return after you fired it but that was only the first day and after a good cleaning it hasn't had any type of failure yet.

The reviews are pretty good too. Read one comparing that to the Walt and it one hands down.

When you go gun ADD on it let me know, I'll buy it

I hate those caliber snobs. You should let him know that .22LR has reportedly killed more people in this country than any other round.

Only issue I had is the trigger wouldn't return after you fired it but that was only the first day and after a good cleaning it hasn't had any type of failure yet.

I never judge any mechanical device until it's had a chance to break in.

I've heard about .22 playing "pinball" once it enters the skull and making the brain look like swiss cheese.....

I don't necessarily believe that theory to be the cause. What I do believe is that there are many .22LR guns out there, they're easy for people with bad intentions to get (people think of it as a toy so may be less inclined to take care of the gun), the ammo is cheap, and on top of that people scoff the caliber therefore act less safe with it.

I've heard about .22 playing "pinball" once it enters the skull and making the brain look like swiss cheese.....

....."if" it could penetrate the skull which is highly unlikely or under the right circumstances like distance aim, unless entering through non-bone area.

I have been hit by .22lr, ......................ricocheted off of a wood base we were using as a target stand about 20yards out. I was 15, my cousin and I were on the farm plinking. Gave me a lump on my head, didn't penetrate the skin. Found the mushroomed bullet on the ground in front of me after it hit me. Granted it was not a direct shot, but...............

Skilled aim you can do major damage with a .22 lr, but using a .22lr for things other than marksmanship, target competition, wabbit hunting or fun plinking I would not count on it as self defense by any means.
