So I got an email saying I had a few days to retreive all the important info etc from my Naxja.org account, which is going to be super hard for me, being somewhat pc challenged. Not to mention, I have a lot of my important news letters, billing, kids schools, etc associated with this account, so it will take days, maybe weeks to move it all over. I am not complaining, and completely understand these email accounts need to be supported somehow. I was a little disappointed on the lack of preparation time given, although it is still active, for which I thank whomever.

My question is, if I pay the $17.50 to become a supporter, is this enough to keep my gmail account?

I don't even have any more XJs, but have met a lot of cool folks on here, both in person and virtually, so I have no problem paying some amount to keep my email account(even though it is eating into my childrens college funds haha) and hopefully support ....whatever it is that is being uspported, from lack of treasury reports, hrumph hrumph(this is a bad joke and in total jest, hopefully within light of the situation it wasn't taken as anything else:). Just proving I do lurk around and keep my proverbial fingers in the game.

I had totally forgot about the naxja.org email address. No wonder I never got any email forward to the national BOD while I was service. :anon:

I logged in today for the first time in a few years. Looks like it is redheep doing the editing of the naxja.org email accounts. Might want to contact him if he hasn't already contacted you.

I also saw this:

Please be aware that when you use Google services, your domain administrator will have access to your email account information, including your email. You can learn more here, or by consulting your domain administrator's privacy policy, if one exists. You can choose to maintain a separate account for your personal use of any Google services, including email. If you have multiple Google accounts, the username that appears at the upper right corner of most Google services will help you ensure that you're using the intended account.

So Glenn can read all my PMs, and Josh can read my email now too? :rattle:

:D

Bryan, do NOT even start that crap. Some people will believe you.

Redheep can admin users, meaning he can add and delete them. He, nor I as the Google account Admin can read anybody's email. Nor PM's.

Sorry, not trying to stir up a hornets nest.....

If they wanted to break into your mailbox they would have to break your password first. You'd know it by the fact that your password is suddenly different. Same procedure I use here at work and on my personal gmail powered mail server.

I had seen the warning sent out before it happened. That said I only skimmed through Josh's original message since it didn't apply to me; I missed that the schedule was so tight. From the standpoint of an IT Professional I think that was in poor form. I can only hope that we didn't actually permanently delete a large quantity of data with such a short notice over a weekend.

I was directed by the president to purge non-member accounts, the same way he purged non-member user accounts here on the forum.

The email I sent out to all of the @naxja.org users was worded that way because I knew that 99.5% of those people who no longer are members or participate here would respond. I did receive two emails back to me this week, from skullver and rook1, indicating that they were using the club's email function as their primary email address. Just like I indicated to both of those individuals in the email chain we communicated with, I'm not a heartless bastard (contrary to popular opinion) and I didn't delete their accounts until they felt that they had a sufficient amount of time to prepare themselves.

I also gave the option of becoming a member again in the original email, which I believe rook1 has chosen. I didn't place any type of time constraint with skullver's account, I simply said let me know when you're comfortable with the deletion of your account.

The remaining accounts that I did not receive a response from or from individuals who haven't posted on the forum in a long time (I think the earliest I saw was 2006) were deleted in accordance with the president's direction, just like how he removed 300 people from the member's user group last month. It is a membership perk, but I had no intention of screwing anyone over, I simply knew that the majority of the 32 accounts I deleted belonged to folks that are not associated with the club anymore and there wasn't any reason waiting 30-60 days for a response from them.

I would assume that paying to be a forum supporter would give you access to the club's email account, however that's probably a question better suited for someone who's on the BOD.

As I said to you, Josh via email. I think having a Naxja email is a great member perk and have no problem deleting accounts as long as those who are getting deleted have fair warning

Sounds like you are going about it the right way to me although I still think you are a heartless bastard :D

Apparently you're not the only one ;)

Thank you redheep, I did get your reply and greatly appreciate it's content, but as I stated in the pm, it wasn't bumped to the top of my email list as a new unread email, it seems to be defective anyways haha. But alas, it is much easier and honorable for me to just renew my membership status, XJ or not, they always have a place in my heart! So......to whom do I talk to about whether a supporter or full red letter is sufficient to keep my email account?
Thanks!!!

You're kidding, right?

This is the difference between changing someone's user account status from paid member to unpaid user, and... deleting their account, and all their email, permanently. Seriously? ****ing seriously? That's the difference between locking a user's forum account and deleting it, with all their posts. BIG difference.

It is not possible to undelete gmail for domains email accounts after they've been deleted. They are gone. Permanently. Forever. Because you decided to come out guns blazing and delete them instead of disabling the accounts/locking them out, with almost no notice.

I sure hope no one was using that as their primary account, because they are now screwed. What exactly were you thinking here? I wonder how many of them now can't recover their ebay, paypal, etc accounts, because the confirmation emails go to a nonexistent address?

This does not affect me, because I didn't even realize we had email accounts, but I can't help but be pissed that someone would literally delete several hundred email accounts permanently with almost no notice to the users.

He is gone, no longer dealing with NAXJA email.

I will say that, as you stated "deleted several hundred email accounts" is quite the exaggeration. We, as a domain, are limited to a maximum of 250 accounts. He did not delete them all. :)

That being said, if anybody is facing any issues retrieving any info due to your account being disabled. feel free to shoot me a PM. I cannot retrieve any historical data you may have had on the @naxja.org account, but I can reactivate it long enough for you to grab any email specific responses you may need.

You amaze me Ken. Guns ablazing? You started a motion to ban a member because he made you mad when you were moderating him.

FYI I deleted 32 user accounts. To people who hadn't been active for 3 years or more. A couple since 2006 and one since 2003.

What is the ****ing point of having a club if we don't restrict access to any of the things that club members should have over regular people?

All of you crack me up. Keep loving each other and making the freeloaders around here feel welcome. We've become an internet forum. Good luck.

He'd been a consistent pain in the butt to the entire moderation team for quite some time and was pissing off a lot of people for a lot of reasons, that just happened to be the straw that broke the camels back. That's neither here nor there, however. If you want to discuss that rather than just using it to discredit what I'm saying here, my PM inbox is open, I'm more than willing to give my reasons for doing that.

I have no problem with restricting access to club-member-only things, I just think you need to learn the difference between "delete" and "disable" and maybe think a bit before permanently deleting stuff. If you'd simply disabled the accounts or given more notice I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought and certainly wouldn't have bothered to post about it.

As for account deletion counts - I admit I was wrong there, I thought you'd nuked more than you had. My apologies for accusing you of permanently deleting only 32 people's email accounts with their entire contents with almost no warning rather than several hundred.

I recommend contacting the president of the club. I waited about 4 days longer than he recommended.

"No member, no email" was the message I received. With the restriction put into place with google, deleting them was the only option in order to create space for active members.

I am no longer on the BOD or have any part in administering the domain. Further questions can be directed to the people that do.
