Cage construction

I think extreme use is a relative term.

When you smack the white stuff against a rock and slide it, it's going to gouge. When you do the same thing to the black stuff, it's going to gouge.

The manufacturer might consider "regular" use and "extreme" use to be different, but I think regardless of what kind you use, the result is the same when you scrape it on a rock.

Edit: "less demanding applications" might just mean not to use it where food or the FDA is concerned.

If you don't care what it will look like the black stuff will work fine. It kind of gouges and turns colors depending on how hard it is hit.

The white stuff doesn't turn colors..can be bleached..and you just cut the gouged piece off with a knife if it is hanging off. It's remarkably tough and takes a beating!

Most likely then, I'll just use the white. I only had until Nov. 1st to work on the crawler. Since then I've hadto unload the sand cars are get them prepped for our Thanksgiving trip to the dunes. After that the wife and I will be traveling most of December, so it looks like the crawler will collect some dust until January.
At least I can accumulate nesc. parts until then.

Time to get this finished! Dave Taylor suggested I need to do some more research on the air shock mounting. I found out air shocks work much better with a linear progression. Simply put, it should be mounted as vertical to the axle as possible. Soooooo....time to cut off the old mounts and redo it as best I can.

The shock on the left is the remounted unit.
Below is a picture of it at full compression (joust.)

And before the remount.

And the new mounting tabs.

The remount isn't the perfect resolution to the issue, but it will need to do.
The rig needs to be done before KOH.
:D

I need to order brake lines today and I don't recall what type caliper this is.
Can anyone help me ID it and then let me know a good place to order long braided lines for them?

There is an Earl's shop in Kerney Mesa. I think I'll be going there for all the fittings so I might as well build what I need then.
Now to find a single handle cutting brake...

ON a side note, I went out to the garage to take a progress picture of the rig. I've been working on it non stop all month long.
There was almost nothing photo worthy. Its kinda' nice to think most of the work I am doing is just buttoning up the project!

Rick I've seen to guys on here BUILD rigs for the KOH race coming up. I know one of them didn't have much help cause I was there and was part of his help. One is almost 100% done and the other is like 75% done. But then we have you at 2 or 3 years at 30% done, WHATS UP WITH THAT?

Just saying, cause for the life of me i don't know why yours isn't done yet.
I am busy till the 3rd weekend of FEB, i'm open then to help you and get this thing on the road.Let me know.

But can it be wheeled? LOL. Sorry rick, but i have had so much crap going on over here to come out and help you.

Again i am sorry sir. But if you still need any help then let me know and i'll put you in that day/weekend.

There may be issues with brake lines too....
I can't get the parts I need out here, and with the rain forcast in San Diego, and my friends garage being full of his hot rod, I may need to postpone the brake line work until next week.
Other than that, its getting real close to being drivable.

BTW the drive shafts arrived today!
