Cage construction

I just went out there to check it (sounded thin to me too.) It is 3/16" plate.:D

i figured it was thicker than 20ga.... reason i ask is im planning on buggying one very soon and so far i think im going to sleeve the rails with 3/16" and leave enough exposed to set the new rear crossmember on, then just brace it to the cut rail and tube structure

........if that makes any sense at all :D

It makes sense. I'd only suggest doing what you can to take the unibody (even the rails) out of the structure equation.
The plan is to even cut out the horns and replace them with something more substantial. But that won't be for sometime yet (I do have a 300Z engine sitting here with noplace to go.)

Starting to look good, almost looks like a TJ! :D

You know I love you right?

I have no idea......yet.

As far as the boatsides go, I'll try light weight first, if that doesn't work, I'll find something else.

We made some out of 3/4" thick cutting board material. So long as it is braced right, it does not crack or pop, and you can recess the heads of the stainless steel bolts into the material itself.

It is a little pricey at the link below, but it works badass..and if you get it dirty and want it to be white again you simply pop it off and throw bleach on it :D

Awesome build btw!

Hey Rick...

I know this idiot out in Orange County that works for some big plastic company, you might want to talk to him.

That bridge has been burned and is no longer available

:dunno:

edit: mine is way more expensive I suppose....I only remember it being cheaper because I was shopping for smaller pieces at only .500

I believe the black stuff is identical to the white stuff. It's just colored differently for applications where white isn't a good idea.

That's what I read a couple of weeks ago on one of the websites when I was bored at work.

The Interstate plastics link states that the black stuff is made up of partialy
recycled material and is not intended for extreme use.
I'm guessing that rock crawling would be a bit more extreme, but maybe, since I don't care what it looks like after a run in with a rock (or two) it would work.

Hardibacker and porcelain tile. Just use good thinset.
