2JZGTE swap this summer...

IIRC the two different fuel pumps have different pressure.

Earlier is less than the later ones. Later operates at around 48 psi (IIRC)

So if:
"XJ's from 84 - 96 all have the same tank."

AND

"Regulator was at the fuel rail for 87-95 4.0s. 96+ had the regulator in the tank."

Then I just need any fuel pump platform from any earlier Jeep, correct?

I might be wrong but I believe the 96 had the regulator at the rail. I "think" that all changed in 97. I know for a fact they are the same from 84-94. I have had both an 84 and a 94 xj.

Ok. My 96 has no return fuel line...and the 4.0 I just sold had only one line going to the rail...no outlet, so the regulator MUST be in the tank, right? Can anyone confirm that their pre-96 Cherokee has a return line going back to the tank?

I dunno what the damn deal is with these pics. No matter how I rotate them in photobucket, no matter that I deleted them from PB and re-uploaded them oriented correctly...nothing I do changes the orientation on this forum. So be it. Sometimes you have to just go with the flow. Sorry, I'm going with it.

It's actually getting tacked together now, but I have to adjust runner number 4, because like no. 3 wanted to hit the compressor housing, no. 4 wants to hit the exhaust housing. I'll fix it in the a.m.

I can tell you for sure that all the xj's from 94 on back have them at the rail and have a return line.

96 is the change from the 95 and under fuel rail with regulator and return line and 39psi pump. 96s have the single fuel line, regulator in the tank, 49psi pump and still have an external filter like the pre-96s.

Alright, I'm gonna go with this. Anyone know where I can get the fuel pump assembly for a 95- Cherokee? I do NOT need the fuel pump, just the assembly that bolts into the tank.

Well the 91 - 95 should be all the same.

Right. I thought I'd try using a minus instead of a plus sign to indicate 95 and before, as opposed to 95 and up. LOL. Anyway, what Ghost said please!

This build is looking awesome... I was messing with a friend of mine about doing this with his 2JZ that I had sitting at my house, since he was being slow bringing his 280Z over for the swap.... Def. subscribing to this build... can't wait to see the first startup!!

This is amazing. I can't wait to see the end of this. You have mad welding skills and you look exactly like former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski.

Thank you daily! Been getting lots of practice building exhaust components for the new GTR, including these tips I conceived/designed/built. Some of you might also appreciate this stuff, though not Jeep related:

This is the first prototype set:

Hope no one gets pissy cause I'm "showing off"... I'm not gonna lie, it's just that I work hard at what I do and am a little proud of my work. *shrug* I think I'm pretty mellow about it really. Usually. Sometimes I'm an ass though, I admit. I'm working on it. :)

So anyway my second Calc II final is tomorrow, so this manifold build and Jeep project should be getting worked on again come this weekend. Stoked.

Not pissy... just jealous! Man, I wish I could have you do an exhaust for me! something like that would be awesome on my XJ!

Good luck on the Calc II exam!

IIRC there were two different tanks used, one steel one plastic, on cherokees. It makes sense to me that the switch over was at the same time as the fuel system (pump, regulator etc) switch. That being said, you have to ask if the two tanks & units share those all critical mounting dimensions. So do you feel lucky?

The switch was in 97 with the new body style.

@Bluedragon:

You might like this. I put an RB26dett into a 280zx...replaced the stock gauges with autometer cobalts in stock locations too.

Calc II is officially behind me. I think I'll be porting the collector for the manifold tonight, maybe get a runner or two welded up...:)
