2014 MJ (code name Abby)

Looking great!

I'd love to do a 97+ conversion some day...

x2. Got the MJ, could get a late model easy enough. I just don't have the time or patience to do this right now. :helpme:

You've got a late model sitting in the driveway already!

Yea that one will stay as is for now. Might not ever do anything more then mud tires and rock rails to that one.

worked on the front axle today, (yeah, its an LP30 but that's what I have for now)

I really hate these, and no I dont have a press, I have a BFH, chisel and now a sore thumb

I torch the rubber until it falls out then cut the sleeve in 2 places with a hack saw and they fall right out. ;)

Pressing them back in can be a bitch.

I hit the edge with a chisel and then pound them out.

Clean up the surface put some grease on the new one and pound it back in.

Just did a set on the rev cut 30 I put in the LJ and it was a lot easier than I remembered.

mac 'have used a torch and sawzall in the past' gyvr

When you put the new ones in, toss them in the freezer for a couple hours first, then pull them out, put some white lithium grease on them, line them up and give them a couple whacks with a 3 lb sledge. I did that on my front axle while it was still in the Jeep and it worked great.

I haven't for got you and the linkage you want. I just got side tracked with honeydo's on the weekend and couldn't get under that wreck. I will look on thanksgiving.

no torch, but I have done this before

yeah, this is pretty much what I did, kinda beat them a bit :)

Thanks for the reminder, they came from UPS, cold off the truck and straight to the freezer, went in like a charm !

No worries, if its rust free I'll take it, otherwise I got one that was a bit cleaner at the JY

What kind of paint did you use on the axle housing? Regular, POR, or??

VHT Roll Bar and Chassis spray paint, leaves a micro textured finish, dries in about 5 minutes and Hardens pretty good when it fully cures in about 24hrs

Cleaned up some parts yesterday...

These are the control arms from my Hawaii Jeep(which has RC adj arms now), still like new, and the bushings are good:

and the Rear, currently a XJ 8.25 from a Florida, just minor surface rust in a few spots, I have new Mopar perches to put on:

All these bushings are way past their useful life

Bushing removal, I dont recommend this method, but sometimes things need to be done (these springs still have a lot of tension in the curl and the chisel ended up flying out under extreme pressure multiple times and nailed me once)

as for the shackle, I just cut the weld, opened the eye a bit, (*note: these are NOT spring loaded and safe to open with a chisel)

Wire brushed, sanded and started to POR15 the springs

new Bushings arrived, will install once the paint dries

and started to tear down the engine for cleaning

middle of cleaning up the oil pan a bit

Put a newer 0331 head on that I had lying around (recently rebuilt and shaved .006), new head gasket, new oil pan gasket, new timing cover gasket, new oil filter adapter o-ring gaskets, cleaned up the valve cover as well

Had to deal with this broken trans mount bolt, no luck with the easy out, ended up making a bigger hole then running a bolt through it with a nut on the back
11182905575_f1dfe15c94_b.jpg

Changed the filter and gasket too, easier to do when its upside down and not you
11182969194_8608af9c5d_h.jpg

had to deal with this mess too, somebody just kept turning and turning at one point
11182971054_5c4f986bf1_b.jpg

gave the pan a fresh coating, it was beyond going back to silver, enough to buy time

back together and going in

in its new home along with some MORE motor mounts that have been lying around since 2010 (these were in the back of the big red Hawaii jeep when I bought it)

used the Comanche cross member with a new tranny mount for a 99 XJ (which I ordered by mistake for the silver Hawaii jeep awhile back and has been sitting on the shelf) all the holes lined up perfectly
