Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

Rig still doesn't like to drive straight.

Toed it out to 1/8" and it's way better. Now it just pulls driver . Adjusted the driver arm out a bit. Might try centering the steering wheel since it's not center. Spent the day building a second cross member. It's always so much work building crossmembers.

The issue with it pulling driver is that when I correct the hydro is very quick so minor corrections seem more dramatic.

Caliper sticking?

Couldn't get the axle centered so I shortened the Trackbar.
Couldn't get the box centered so I shortened the drag link.
Adjusted the tie rod from 1/2" toes out to 1/4" and I think it drove a hair better with more toe out which is weird.

Installed the second crossmember.

How do you like the deavers? Have you gotten to wheel on them any?

I'm about to buy new leafs, and I'm considering buying the deavers so I won't have to worry about leafs again for a good while. Only thing holding me back atm is the reported 'stiffness'...

Has you taken the front axle out and checke it's trueness? It's so weird that you're having issues with this. Is the frame side lower mount on the same plane?

Not sure if the pictures are deceiving me, weird camera angle. But, to me it appears that the front driveshaft is at an improper angle from the T-case to the axle and maybe the driver side arm is off as well?

just the pics decieving you . its all dialed in.

With 40s I could have gone to a 4.3 or 5:1 atlas. I think the 3.8 would be perfect for 35s to 37s.

Need to dial in toe in and rebuild or replace a front shock.
Rig is running and driving great. Clocking the heims stopped the dead spot by stopping tie rod roll. Rig drives very nice now.

I need to replace the tranny pan gasket all over again. pissing a ton of ATF.

Pro comps dont grab the way i thought they would , need more time to break them in .The were smooth up to 70mph on the highway, no weights, just a pint of 20g airsoft BBs to balance them.

good update thanks for the info. so you need a 5.3L now to go with that 3.8? :D

interesting about the pro comps. I actually picked up a spare after blowing 2 MTR's in a row (they were old and ready to die anyway) and it was a brand new pro comp 37. I was thinking about buying a whole set but not any more

these on the other hand... hnnng http://www.genright.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=FMT38TIRE

I like the pro comps and they hooked up great for the most part, a couple lines I took I thought the tires could have done better. I was at 13psi, so I could have maybe dropped to 9 up front and 8 ion the rear.

I've found that my tires don't hook up either, theres just too much weight with the 1 tons on loose climbs so I can't get traction where a lighter rig does

yeah I need to wheel this one more . Only two runs so far.

It had awesome traction on the ladder at SR, but the buggy line took some wheel speed and some work.

it seemed to not spin a tire once on the rubicon , good traction there, but that was with some very used MTRs.
