Where did you go wheeling this weekend?

Awesome weekend, I had Friday through Monday off, so I went out for all four days. All my friends bailed as normal, so I ended going alone.

Got out toward Alamo by Friday night, worked my way over toward Beaver Dam by Saturday night, Sunday night got to Enterprise and camped by the resevoir there, then headed home Monday. Total of 415 miles on dirt roads and trails. Not all that hard for the most part, but I did need low range a couple times. As normal didn't get pictures of anything difficult cause I was too busy driving.

Participated in the Adopt A Trail program on 2N04 in Big Bear last Monday. Good people, good cause, and a nice dust-free day for a change.

Nice map. I ended up at lake mohave this weekend, lost a trackbar bolt on the dodge just when we started to leave...12 hour trip home including repair time. Sucked balls, but the prior 48 hours was worth its weight in gold.

I was headed down toward lake mohave after work today, I made it 20 miles down the road but my jeep is too tore up from last weekend, I couldn't even get to 60 mph without massive death wobble. I had to turn around and go home on surface streets. Guess I have to spend a while wrenching instead of wheeling.

Really? My jeep is broken for a few weeks, and nobody else does any wheeling? I wanna see pictures!!!

Even if my XJ is still not fixed this weekend I'm taking my CJ5 out to the Spring Mountains, do some rifle shooting and camping and get out of the heat.

Hey, thanks for sharing the pics.

My folks live in Henderson, and I want to take my dad camping somewhere near there. He wouldn't be up for 415 miles of dirt, but can you recommend a good weekend trip with a cool place to camp for a day or two that is somewhat near Vegas (within a couple hours or so)?

Thanks,
Mike

What vehicle would you be driving, and are you looking for established campgrounds or just good places to camp?

If you'll have even a slightly built jeep out here, I'd recommend Burro Wash below Boulder City. If you look back through this thread I've posted pictures of it a couple times. This is my favorite camp site for just an overnight trip. But be warned, the water is freezing cold, and the fishing is lousy.

If you want an established campground and have a pickup or stock jeep or something, there's a campground at the halfway point of Mormon Well Rd, it's up in the ponderosa pines, not heavily used. I've never actually camped or even stopped here, just driven past a couple times. Lot of hiking possible in the area too.

If you just have a car check out the campground at Upper Pharanagat Lake just below Alamo, I've got a picture or two of that lake on here, it's right next to Great Basin Hwy (Hwy 93) but real pretty.

Those are just off the top of my head, if you're wanting something with more offroading or farther from Vegas shoot me a PM, I know the Vegas area fairly well and can give you detailed directions and good campsites just about anywhere within a couple hours.

I'll be in my XJ, locked on 35's. He's never been wheeling with me since I've built this XJ up, so I do want to find a place where I can show him a little bit of what the Jeep can do. He wouldn't really be interested in crawling all day, but hitting a few nice obstacles or some rocks, on the way to our destination would be ideal.

As for camping, just looking for a cool spot. We don't need an established campground.

I'll do some research on Burro Wash. Sound good, and I know he and my mom visit Boulder City pretty often.

Thanks a lot for the information. I appreciate it!

It was a long weekend and I didn't take the XJ but all the same it was a great scouting trip to both ends of the "River of No Return", the Salmon River in Idaho.

Oh, I love that thing! I mean, I really, really think that van is super cool. I've had my eye on something like that for a long time now. Well, "something" like that -- there's no way I could afford that thing, yet. :D

Thanks for the pictures. :)
