Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Have you done a compression test on it? Unless it has bad compression I can't imagine how the engine condition would make it act like that.

It's had a skip/miss sense we put it in. Was not very common but was there periodically. I thought it just needed new plugs and wires and a general tune up. When I replaced the engine mounts Friday one was toast. So that is why the engine was moving forward I guess. I'll do a compression test and more detailed look at it later.

Got the 98 back together today. Went to drive it home and it was acting funny. Turned around on 151 and headed back to the shop. She stalled at a light and would not start back. Almost got rear-ended by an idiot while trying to restart it. ended up getting it started and back to the shop. I thik this used motor I bought was on its way out. I see wetness at the head block union. I'm about tired of buying used shit and trusting people.... I think a new build may be in the future.

Stroke it!

Had a roaring coming from the front of the 1998 ZJ so I tore into it on Sunday. Unit bearings seemed good and tight. The knuckles have groves where the inner brake pads have wore into them. Axle shaft U-joints are also shot and need replacing.

I'm hoping to get these items fixed and get the Grand reassembled soon. I had a set of nice D30 knuckles that I was going to swap on but they are not set up for the ABS sensors. I think it's simply a hole that needs to be drilled and tapped but I haven't removed the originals yet to know 100%. I may get a MAPP gas torch and preheat and weld up the original knuckles. Everyone says it's pretty easy.

Ed I never even heated mine up. Just put some tacks on them and flap disc'd them back down smooth

I heard about guys doing this and I mentioned it to my Father-In-Law and he mentioned the cast cracking so that got me to thinking.

I've bought myself some time to get it fixed over the holidays. Thank goodness for my 400K mile Ranger.

All the YouTube videos that I've seen that deal with welding on a knuckle say to heat it up to about 500* and then weld it and put it in a bucket of sand to let it cool gradually to avoid cracking.

Finished my JP29 build...

Drawers coming along... slowly.

How heavy do you expect this to be. I did mine about that size out of wood and its was pretty hefty. Add all the tools and its a beast. Steel square tube must be more....right?

Edit: Oh damn, that's full length too. Mine is just to the back seat.

It's not to bad so far. The base weights about 15-20 lbs once I get all the bearings installed. The drawers are a bit hefty right now. Probably will be about 45 lbs each when done but I plan to break out the hole saw for speed holes. That should help with the weight a good bit. Gonna suck to do but it will be worth it. And yup... they go all the way to the front. it's only the wife and I and even she doesn't ride much. I have pretty much free reign with how I build this. The ability to remove the drawers will be a big plus for day to day use. Keep me from rolling around with no space and unneeded weight while going to the store. I'll build essentially a false floor panel system to mount on the base when the drawers are out. Should give me a full, flat floor so I can carry bigger stuff without damaging the roller assembly.

I had to spend all weekend working on my dodge ram, but at least she runs right again!

It's a shame, shiny new heads and you can barely even see them under all the garbage.

I did similar things with mine trying to reduce weight but I think it still turned out to be 70 lbs and is only half the size of yours. I'm interested in this. Do you have a build thread on it?
