Weekend is over...what did you get done?

2.7L in a full size truck? That seems way too small to power something that big.

I just can't get over those tiny little engines.

Me either.....

If it was a ecodiesel maybe..... I am not happy about Ford's direction with these hi HP small engines in a truck that is supposed to tow.

Finally got my rear axle rebuilt with the replacement housing. I was hoping against my better judgement that the straight housing would help with the torque steer I have while driving down the road, but it didn't. :(

The axle sure does sound a whole lot better now, so at least it was some progress!

Well, I suppose "torque steer" may not be the proper description, but it's all I could think of. If I'm on the gas, it pulls to the left, so constant input to the right is needed to keep it going straight down the road. I let off, it seems to go fairly straight with minimal input needed to keep it going straight. Track bar adjuster is seized in position and I've tried everything to free it up. Axle is offset to the passenger side by roughly 5/8". Not a major deal there. Track bar angle is as level with the drag link as one could hope for.

When I had the front axle out a while back I checked the control arms and they all matched their counterparts' length from the other side of the XJ. The LCA mounts are the exact same distance from the forward leaf spring mounts. IIRC I checked for unibody squareness by measuring known points in a cross pattern, but I can't remember 100% if I did that. I'll go back and do it again to see.

The part that has me scratching my head is the distance between the wheels (F to R) is roughly 1/2" longer on the driver's side, which really has me puzzled because it would seem it should pull to the RIGHT instead of the left with that difference.

Even before I fixed the axle issue I suspected the driver's rear frame rail was the root cause. It's bent down about 1/2"-3/4" behind the axle. It makes that side sit a little higher. Not sure if that would make it do what it's doing, but at this point I'm grasping at straws.

Ok I just went for another drive in it, and I remembered a bit wrong. Even when I let off the gas, I still have to pull the wheel to the right to keep it straight. I'll blame that mistake on a combination of very little on-road time with it coupled with a mind that tends to get a bit more cloudy as the days go by :dunce:

With the turbos it has some balls. I didn't need anything huge motor wise, especially since the 2.7 makes 325hp and 375tq. It will flat out burn the tires. I won't be towing my trail rig and I DD this thing. So far everyone of my friends that has driven it, loves it. I do miss the rumble of a v8, but this thing is super quiet and the power delivery is very linear, making a most of its tq at 2k and flattening out across the power band. 3.73 gears helps alot as well. Love the electric rear locker option as well.

I definitely don't want to see if it will tow the manufacturer claim of 8500lb max. I'll let the others try it.

Finally got a DD. After 8 months of looking, test driving, and looking, and test driving.....I picked up my first ever new truck. 2015 F150 FX4 crew cab with 2.7 ecoboost. Had it custom ordered with the exterior, interior, gears, and locker like I wanted........and it helps having a close friend be the vice president of the local Ford dealer..............

Now to beat up on the XJ since I don't need to rely on it.

Congrats! Even though my tow pig is almost 10 years old, it's loaded and I know the feeling of finally having comfort in a DD. Just today I spoiled myself with heated seats and auto cabin air temp when we dropped to a balmy 50 degrees after PT today!

Pics or it didn't happen.

I bet they tow more than your F150 does...

If there is anyone to test the limits of F150 tow package, Ghost is it. We have burned up the roads leaving URE a couple times.

the axles spin counter clockwise if you're facing the yoke.. if you had 'torque steer" which now I can't remember what it's called exactly lol.. It should be pulling you towards the passenger side.. Maybe I'm mistaken though.

It's not AWD nor is it in 4WD when it does it, although I'm sure it's still present when in 4WD. All I know is if I'm stopped and then get on the gas, it feels like it wants to hang a left, hence the constant right hand input of the steering wheel.

I'm going to park it in the shop after turkey day and go back to basics to see if I overlooked something simple. It's totally possible that's the case. I do have a bad habit of overthinking a problem and overlooking the simple things at times lol.

If nothing else I'll adjust the control arms to get the front to rear measurements the same to see what that does. I may replace the control arm and rear shackle bushings too. They're all Rubicon Express bushings, but they're probably a decade old at this point and have seen some abuse off road. They all were a bit loose when I checked them so I'm sure they're not doing me any favors at this point.

Arms equal length? Well sometimes due to mounting, if you have long arms.. One side may differ. If it's short arms and adjustable I'd measure again.
Yes shackle and leaf bushings that are really shot could cause that! Also a control arm bushing..Maybe do a good once over bolt torque check too. Things like this are always such a pita. Best of luck!

I may have missed it already but could it be a sticky front caliper?

That's what mine does when one gets sticky. Pulls one way or the other depending on which caliper isn't happy.

That's a possibility. I'll check the rotor temps next time I drive it and see if there's a difference.

On the control arms, I checked them last time I had the axle out and they were the exact same length when compared with their counterpart (upper & lower). All 4 are adjustable so if nothing else I should at least be able to fix that issue. I just have this OCD thing working against me, and knowing it isn't "right" is killing me. Even if it drives great and the arms are all different lengths it will bug me. But I'm sure once I get it driving somewhat normally I'll forget about that part. One thing that I won't forget is how the interior lights come on when making a right hand turn. Yeah....this body has had it

Lifted the MJ yesterday... T-Bird coils and JK rubi shocks w/ BPE up front. Dodge 1500 shocks and Chevy drop shackle with relocated hole in the rear. nice 3.5" or so. Rides great. $90 I spent.
Also bought some steel and made sliders. 1 1/2"x3" 7ga w/ 1x3" 11ga legs and 3x3 3/16" angle for the frame mounting. Fit perfect.

Umm yeah that just happened.

No not mine but after 7 months of waiting a friend just brought a Nissan r32 Skyline GTR twin turbo home. It's a beautiful machine. Going out for a drive tomorrow.
