Got a little more progress on the XJ. As noted I pretty well crushed in the passenger side quarter panel last time out, so I decided to cover the damage with JCR quarter panels.

So far I have done all my work on the passenger side. I decided it was time to cut and fold the wheel arches and do a cut and fold on the rear lower quarter panel. I haven't started the arches yet, but I did do the cut and fold.

It wasn't as nerve wracking as it might have been. It is far from a professional job, but since EVERY PANEL on that corner had been bent - outer skins, inner skin, wheel well, you name it - I had to work with some improvisation.

Tonight I got the cut and fold seam sealed and ready to paint tomorrow. I also installed the raw quarter guard and drilled all the holes and hung it by about 4 bolts. I guess tomorrow I'll probably do the wheel arch on the passenger side, then pull off the JCR guard and paint the drilled holes.

I am going camping with the girls over the weekend - the Nashville zoo is doing a lock in camp out in the zoo which should be pretty cool - so I doubt I'll get started on the driver's side until next week. Maybe a Labor Day project.

I let the girls autograph the rear quarter panel of the Jeep before I finish up the JCR guards. They thought it was pretty cool to write on a truck.

That's cool.

I drove the Jeep to work yesterday. Ran and drove great and I am really happy with the rebuild and can tell a big difference. I have a small vacuum leak somewhere still and a very small exhaust leak somewhere near the manifold . I noticed last night my low beams didn't work but I have high beams. Troubleshot it with the meter and one bulb was loose the other was broken. So with one broken bulb and one broken housing the only sensible thing to do is buy new housings and Olympus LED headlights.

I was shooting stuff with the IR gun and noticed my old downpipe was dirty and about 500 something degrees and the new pipe was upper 200's lees than 8" downstream so that was pretty crazy. I could probably use a new o2 too.
 
I FINALLY have a weekend where I'm not working on things that I HAVE to work on, so now I can work on stuff I WANT to do! Pulled the old girl into the shop for an extended stay for the cage install and a few other minor mods.....

Thanks. I just finished the driver's side. Still need to seal it and paint it. Bring yours over and we'll fold yours. It isn't that hard to do. Just bring plenty of cut off wheels!
 
We decided to get out and ride around in the Jeep this afternoon. We spent some time driving around northern Cannon Co. and visited High2by. After visiting for a bit, we got ready to leave and heard a clunking from the front end. The problem was pretty obvious to Mark. All of the control arm bushing are shot. As you depressed the brakes, the axle was rocking back and forth, allowing the pinion to go up and down at least an inch. There was at least 1/2" of play in the lower rear control arm bushings too. It looks like a total rework of all bushings in the front and rear of the XJ are now in order.

But hey, I did drive the XJ all afternoon so that counts for something.
 
Worked on the Jeep's transmission some, worked on getting the bumper lined up better on the Mazda pickup, and spent some time at the lake.

Not wanting to go back to work tomorrow...
 
Had Diner with the GF then to Vintage for Pint Night with Anderson Valley Brewing. Saturday I took my friend William's TJ via my truck and trailer to CFS off road in Columbia for him. We hit up two tap rooms, Swamp Cabbage Brewing and got a tour of the facility. Then we hit up Conquest Brewing. Both good beers but Conquest has more brews and they are better. Watched "Noah" with the GF. Sunday we went to her house to check on the dog and she got a hankering for playing some pinball. So we went back to Columbia and found this little dive bar that had a couple machines. Unfortunately there was a tournament going on so we played some pool and had a beer. Monday Spanky, the GF and my self loaded up the truck and trailer and headed to Marion. Picked up a fairly nice green 2 door 98 4x4 xj for Spanky, aka Dave. I tried to give him $50 over what he paid for it but he wouldn't sell it to me. A good weekend with a lot of moving of jeeps and some good beer.

I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing that TNT kit from Brad at the Crawl. That is exactly what I needed.
