Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Thanks.

If you are free Saturday and want to watch some rock bouncers, I think I will be heading back to Chocco to watch a race. Like 40 rigs entered and they're racing on boat ramp and another hill next to it.

Congrats Will! I got the winch working atm. One of the new solenoids was not working right. I'll give them a call Monday. I'm heading to a family reunion shortly!

My buddy was coming over to work on my XJ and CJ with me. His steering box bolts sheered off a block from my house, so now we are raiding my XJ for parts to fix his. The only running Jeep in my yard is 47 years old lol.

Hmmm. Depends if it's raining or not. Let me check with the wife.

Didn't have any rain after 9 this morning and the mud was pretty nonexistent. You missed a fun day.

Here are your pics. That is Cole from MADRAM11 in all of them:
Boatramp broke a lot of stuff today.
Got a video of this XJ walking up Boatramp, too.

Dude lost his whole tire. It literally rolled back down the hill lol.

Broke CO

This is Nathan. He helps work at Chocco and I have met him a few times. That is a 96 XJ inline six and AW4 in front of a 205.

First carnage of the day was a broken rear driveshaft. He was backing up and it got wedged into the rock ledge at the bottom and almost made for a really bad day.

Here is a video of the broken CO:

Kicked a rock into it and broke the axle mount off and it all exploded.

On the way home I was getting off the interstate about 15 miles from home and the tranny started puking fluid out of the inspection cover. Either the TQ seal went or the TQ popped from a "Magic bolt" that has been hiding in the bellhousing for the last 8 months... Either way it has to come out. Yay. Jeep will be down for a while...

Made some progress with the transmission in Wendy's red ZJ. I dropped the pan so I could flow drill a hole and tap it for a temperature sensor. For those that may not know, flow drilling isn't really "drilling" at all; it's a special type of "drill" that basically melts a hole in sheet metal, then pushes the excess material downward creating a wall that can then be tapped. Works great for putting threads in thin sheet metal.

So anyway, while I had the pan down I readjusted the bands and increased the line pressure 1-1/2 turns. Then I wired up a permanent switch for the torque converter lockup manual control. I put the whole dash back together, then realized I'd forgotten to run power wires for the trans temp gauge  I said screw it and went for the test drive without the gauge; I'll worry about it later. I can say that it a definite improvement, but the issue isn't 100% resolved yet, and I'm wondering if the better results are skewed because the ambient temps were around 20* cooler than normal today. Anyway, I drove it for over an hour today and it only acted up twice, and not nearly on the level that it did before so I'm happy to at least be taking one step forward instead of feeling like I'm always going backward with it. I've got a couple more things to try before giving up and pulling it out for a rebuild!

There is a vent near the tranny pump, it may have just puked out some extra fluid.

Went fishing, minor jeep fixes, drank some beer, went offroading, drank some beer, fixed minor jeep issues again, went to the races, drank some beer, cleaned up the jeep today, drank more beer... Good weekend.

Sold the Miata. More money in bank for Jeep mods now.

Well, my good fortune with the red ZJ was short lived. It's already slipping out of gear again. I talked with my transmission buddy and he said to take it back out and bring it to him. He said he'd make it right with no charge, so at least that takes a lot of the sting out of pulling it again. When I originally pulled it I noticed some aluminum shavings in the pan, and then when he dropped the pan again a few weeks ago he found more, and then when I dropped it this past weekend I found even more so something's definitely going wrong somewhere in there. Hopefully this time it'll get fixed right.

And I know that I've sort of bounced back and forth about wanting to sell it, then wanting to keep it...but I think I am going to drop the price on that MJ and let it go. It's just not in the cards for me right now.
