Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Had a second date Friday night with an old college friend. Drug her ass up to Abbeville Saturday and meet up with Andy and April. (Damn she so cute!) Then rode down to my rents house with said girl near Aiken. Surveyed the damage the ice did and was pleased it wasn't that bad. Saw some family. Then went in to town and saw how bad Aiken County had ben hit with the ice we had. I've never in my life seen so many piles of tree limbs in the streets for pick up. Then I took my friend to Aiken Brewing Company for dinner and beers. Drove home. Man what an awesome weekend!!!!!

Damn it must be nice, I can't get my soon to be ex to sign the separation agreement so i can have a life. Looks like its about to get ugly.

Went to Atlanta on Saturday for Supercross at the Dome, then up to Asheville to see some friends on Sunday. Got home about 8:30 last night and passed out almost immediately.

I need a weekend for my weekend.

It's been three years to get mine done. I had a few little romances along the way but nothing serious. Weird how things fall into place. I went over after the big snow to cut some large branches that fell off a large tree in her yard and we have seen each other every free day we have had. She came over yesterday afternoon evening too. Bonus was she said she wanted to come to the shop earlier in the day but was afraid she'd be in the way.... WHAT!!! Hell NO!

I put some LED tail lights in the Jeep, replaced the batteries in my key fob and ran a 8 gauge power wire from the PDC to under my back seat for the amp that I'll be installing later this week to play my loud devil music through.

No beer drinking? :rof:

Tell her to come on over whenever she wants; then either put a wrench in her hand or ask her to go on a parts run for you. If she doesn't balk at either one you've yourself a winner!

NO DOUBT! :rof: :

Went to get my new tires today to find out they're on backorder. They guy forgot to call me and tell me that. They should be in a couple weeks though, as long as I get them before the Crawl I'll be happy. I really don't think my driving style 31's, and Harlan will mix too well

Looks like we lucked up with that ZJ we bought yesterday! I took it to our shop today, pulled the front driveshaft and took it for a test drive. I knew the viscous coupler was junk from what the sellers told me, but I was also pretty worried about the transmission. They said it was slipping badly, but I noticed today while I was driving it that the shifter just didn't feel quite right when I put it into drive. Turns out the shifter cable seems to be stretched. When the shifter is at its positive stop, the transmission detent isn't quite in the "drive" position so they weren't quite aligned with one another and it was slipping into neutral at times. I slipped the shifter just past drive, and it drove just fine afterward.

The only other issue I felt was if I was very light on the throttle from a dead stop, it doesn't want to shift out of second gear; it will just hold it and hold it and hold it until I either let off the throttle or press it a bit further. Maybe the TV cable is misadjusted (if that transmission even has one)? Who knows, at this point I'm just stoked because for right now I don't think it's going to need a rebuild, and we can live without the AWD until I can address the t-case with the 424 swap.

Does that have a cable like an XJ where you hit the little button and move the throttle body all the way and back and it adjusts itself? That would be sweet to fix it quick like that.

I looked at it briefly tonight after this post. It's a little different, but I think I see how it adjusts. Unfortunately, from what I've read online it already appears to be adjusted correctly. I may try and make a minor adjustment one click back and forth to see if that makes a difference. If nothing else my friend that rebuilds transmissions may be able to give me some good advice. I also discovered that there is an adjustment on the transmission end of the shifter cable so I'll get on that sometime this week.

It's a 5.2. I thought I'd read somewhere that the trans was a 44RH, but more searching says it's a 46RH. I'm not sure how many electrical components it has. The "H" apparently stands for hydraulically controlled. I know there's an overdrive solenoid but that's about it with my knowledge. I didn't get much time to mess with it yesterday, but I did adjust the TV cable a little. Loosening it one click seemed to make the problem worse, tightening it one seemed to help a little. More trial and error is in order.....

Installed my rear locker and u joint u bolts

Now looking at seats... What's everyone recommend?

Finally got around to installing the 1-ton steering i've had laying on the floor since October.

Got everything measured yesterday, cut, welded, and drilled out. Got it all on and couldn't get it to fit right due to lack of instructions that would have detailed a couple of important points, one of which being the pitman arm needs to be drilled out bigger than the knuckles. Gave up on it last night and started over fresh this morning. Got everything bolted on, set the alignment at about 1/8" toe in and took it on the test drive. With in about 2 miles I got all out death wobble at 70mph. Last time I had it was after a budget lift and I still had stock tires. It's a lot more terrifying with bigger tires on! Got it back to the shop and did a take-two on the alignment, this time getting it damn near dead on to 0*. Drove it 90 miles home and didn't get death wobble once, but I didn't go over 65mph just in case. Got a lot of roll in this steering which i'm going to try to address as well, which is making it difficult to keep in a straight line on the road.

Also installed new ball joints while I had the knuckles off, to replace my broken uppers that only made it about 2 years. Synergy ball joints are the way to go. Very nice quality for not too much more than a set of moog's off the shelf. Hats off to poly performance for quick, and free shipping, plus a nice 10% discount code at the time. No more stance is nice! Maybe now I won't chew through tires.

Finally installed the late model axle shafts I got from Doug last year as well. All in all, the weekend was completely spent on the Jeep. Some good results, and some that are going to require more attention.

We've officially decided to go with the red ZJ for Wendy's daily driver, so I started cleaning it up today. It was fairly clean to begin with, but when I ran across this part I decided to go one step further.....

Judging by the trail of soda, it looks like a whole can was spilled in the console, then ran down underneath and pooled in this location. It's one thing to live in your own filth, but it's a completely different thing to live in someone else's, so the carpet came out for a more thorough cleaning,

Floors are nice and solid

It turned out ok after a scrubbing with a tire brush and cleaner, then taking the pressure washer to it.

Then a good washing to get all the crud off it

I also did a front band adjustment and another shifter cable adjustment on the transmission and they were definitely steps in the right direction, but unfortunately we are still experiencing the delayed 2-3 upshift. If we come to a complete stop it won't shift to 3rd until I let off the accelerator, but if we slow down but don't stop (as you would at a yield sign) the 2-3 shift happens normally every time. I guess I'm just going to take it to my friend and let him have a look-see. Worst case is that I'll have to pull it and let him rebuild it, which really isn't all that bad for what he charges us.

I did the same thing to my 94 XJ today. I was surprised to find NO RUST, just the normal surface "bubbling" that got grinded out, POR15 coated the bedlined.
