Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Well, to be completely honest, because I can't afford a real SYE right now.

I have an AA SYE in my trail junk and have never had a problem out of it.

I even have a brand shiny new Tom Woods shaft to go in the green Jeep. Just need to SYE. lol

But, you're right... I shouldn't settle. I'll probably slap a dumb ole t-case drop on there for a while until I can buy a legit SYE. Or someone tells me they have what I want on the low.

Oh, and I just have a bad taste in my mouth for 242's because of my Grandparents ZJ. Had nothing but trouble out of that case. That's the only experience I've had with it.

Well quit swapping Jeep's and actually build one then!

I don't want to hear it! I've had my gold Jeep for 8 years and the red one for almost 4 years.

All the rest I never did anything to.

I intend to keep the green one, get it like I like it and leave it alone.

I need to mount the winch up front somehow, build/buy a rear bumper for it, I'd like a swingout tire carrier, Install the sliders, buy different tires and I want some JCR quarter guard/tail lights. Other than that... that's how she's going to be.

Ole Red Jeep will be for sale in the very near future.

I got some wrench time in these past 2 nights. Tuesday I diagnosed, what my wife called a "thunk" that she heard while braking in the WJ. I found 2 bolts working themselves loose on the passenger side caliper.

Last night I took the TruckVault out of XJ and emptied it out. I was toying with the idea of getting rid of it in favor of a different type of organization system so that I could get my spare in the back. Even aired down I couldn't get the 31 in the stock location, so I put the TruckVault back in and used the stock bolt to attach the tire to the top of the vault, then put some tie downs in the wall of the cargo area and threaded a spare cargo net over the top of the cargo area.

Works pretty well, and I don't have to worry about putting it on the roof, since it is heavy and it busted my roof rack during the last trip to Wooly's.

Andy, One of our N sponsors had a smoking deal on the Rugged Ridge SYE. I cant remember who, but it was like $149... It dont get much cheaper than that. I have had an AA SYE in the TB, and it leaked from day one. I have a Rugged in the Red jeep and its perfect.

I always wanted one of those truck vaults when DDing an XJ to lock up certain longer valuables, but man they aren't cheap! Glad to see you figured out how to keep it.

Trying to find it. We'll see if I can come up with it.

Went to Columbia with a couple friends. Ate Lunch at Yesterday's in 5 points. Went to PaPa Jazz and bought some vinyl. Bought some art supplies at City Art. Cruised on over to the Ridge. Rode around in my dad's golf cart and checked out the South Edisto. It would be Awesome to run right now! Came back to Columbia for dinner at Flying Saucer! All in all a great day!

I've been wondering why the new Jeep had been running around 150*.
Pulled the T-stat housing off to make sure the thermostat wasn't stuck open and there wasn't one...

Put a thermostat in it and now it gets up to 210 within a few miles and stays there. I have no clue why it didn't have one.

Swapped the valve cover gasket too. No more leaky oil.

It was WAY cleaner than the underside of my valve cover on the 93.

Now, I have to figure out why I got 13 mpg from the first full tank of gas I ran through it. I'm hoping the low running temp was the culprit.

Probably. My 96 runs at 170-180 and is rich all the time. Heck it ran better at the Crawl because it was almost always 210 due to the low speed crawling instead of 180 cruising down the road. Need to fix it, but I think it will be getting parted out soon.

What did you think of flying saucer?

I've been to the one up there with Ironman Andy before. It was a good time. The food and beer selection were awesome!

They are cool. Love the "beer goddess" shirts and the skirts they wear.... ;)

Picked up a Ford 9" from Southern rebel on here a couple days ago. Its got a full spool, full width, 4.56 gears, and its a big bearing 31 spline unit. Got it stripped down, and trussed. Still have to get a disc brake set up on it, and shave the bottom. I also need to fab up another fill plug. Shes getting beefy by the minute though...

How I got it:

Stripped it down in about 40 minutes, LOVE 3rd member axles.

Stripped the housing down to bare steel.

Started cutting out the truss. They are made from .120 wall 2x6" tubing.

Got the rear truss welded on. I prebent the housing to around .250" before welding it, and kept it to around 0.040" warpage according to my fathers 9" lineup bar. Pretty darn good considering the amount of welding that was done on the housing. Specs call for less than 0.100", so I should be good to go.

Drilled a crap load of 1-1/8" holes. 62 of them to be exact. Just for the cool factor, and maybe a 5lb weight savings. Its gonna be fun washing the mud out, but I dont care...

Here she is, all finished up. Got the top truss done and drilled today.
