Weekend is over...what did you get done?

fixed a few of the wiring issues in my xj, :repair:worked on a friend's 97 hyundai sonata(what a colossal pile of monkey crap that thing is) had to call wingnut to come work his mystical locksmith JUJU when the doors automatically locked with the keys in the ignition and the car running.:explosion - then once we got back in i fixed the brake lights, air conditioner, speedometer/odometer, and unclogged the wiper squirt motor.
still waiting to get paid, though... whenever that money comes along i'll go buy a clutch master cylinder and get my xj back on/off the road.
hung out with middtennjeeperz while they combined 2 crummy steering columns to come up with one good one for a yj, and changed out the tailshaft seal in its t-case.

My dad is doing much better now. he's awake and eating solid food and able to talk, and still jokes around the same way he used to, but it often feels like he thinks it's still 1984 or so, and talks about people who have died like they came to visit him yesterday. his brain still has a lot of healing to do, and he's supposed to start physical therapy to regain some manual dexterity and be able to walk again soon. it still looks like he has a long road ahead of him, but at least we're not planning a funeral! he has been moved back to jackson from vanderbilt, but will make several return trips to get checked out by the surgeons and other doctors who worked on him to see how his progress is going.

Not to pry but what happened to your dad? I saw something about it a couple weeks ago but wasn't sure what happened. Glad to hear he is recovering nicely man!

he was in a rather nasty car crash, involving an 18 wheeler and a street sweeper. he ended up under the street sweeper and had to be cut out of the car. his dog died in the crash, too.:bawl:
he's making some serious progress, and i wouldn't be surprised if he's walking again by christmas! he actually stood on his own today, and was able to walk a little bit today with a walker!

Glad to hear it man. That really sucks about the dog, we lost one in an accident one time. My mom's truck hydroplaned and and rear ended an 18 wheeler. The dog hit the airbag then the seat in about .4 of a second.

I'm glad to hear he's doing better.

2 things:
1. if air is blowing out through the defrost vents when the selector is moved to feet, this means there is a vacuum leak, right? Only about 1/3 the air blows through the defroster.
2. on a RENIX throttle body, the screw in the back (opposite the TPS/IACV) sets how far the throttle plate is open. What does the screw on the right side (under the air filter tube) do?

1. yes, you probably have a small vacuum leak, or something blocking the flappers in your dash.
2. i don't remember. screw it in and out and see what it does, lol. good luck!

so i finally got my xj moving under its own power again, and not leaking anything(except the rear axle, but it's about to get welded, so i'll re-goo it when i put it back together)
unfortunately, something is wrong with my brake booster:
1.brakes suddenly feel too soft, like the brake booster is boosting too much.
2.motor is kinda stumbly, but when i pull the vacuum line off the booster, is smoothes out.
3.without the vacuum hose, motor runs great, but brakes(as expected) are hard to push.

someone says it's a leak, but it seems more to me like it needs a leak, and is just holding too much vacuum.(hisses really loud when i pull the hose off, even with engine turned off.)
what should i do?
if i need a brake booster, does anybody have a good stock one they're just going to
throw away? i don't care if it's single stage, i just want it to work. i know some of you in the nashville area have a ton of parts laying around....

I think I have a master/booster for you. Renix '89, condition unknown.

It is more likely the blower resistor.

The blower resistor makes the system only blow at full speed and nothing at lower speeds, I thought. It doesn't do anything to direct where the air goes, just how fast it can go.

I would think that if the resistor were bad, it would only blow on high (resistor is bypassed)

defrost/vent/heat control is vacuum operated as stated earlier.

Yea that is right I got them confused. Vacume leak will make it blow on defrost.

Yesterday I managed to install another NSS, some reverse lights for when I swap my tail light boxes in, installed my diehard platinum and trimmed my battery tray for said battery since I was assured a 34/78 would drop right in. She starts a little better now! Taillight boxes going on this weekend.

Just gave my 4.0 a fresh transfusion of 10-w-30, new air filter and new wipers.

fixed a couple more electrical things, and welded up my spider gears.
i think tomorrow i'm gonna put on a bunch of stickers :D
hopefully i'll have a lift and tires before christmas....

oh yeah and I changed the oil too. I knew I was forgetting something.

Picked up transmission filter, fuel filter, steering stabilzer, plugs, wires, and air filter for the ZJ.

Also bought a grease gun, second set of jack stands, and a pickle fork.

ZJ has 201,000 on it. Going to do full work up tomorrow...grease all the joints, replace the steering stabilzer, drain and fill the transmission pan and put in the new filter, drain and fill the rear differential and do the new plugs and wires.

My WJ is just about at 100,000 so I am going to get on to that same schedule with it then and then the XJ is getting the same treatment when it hits 135,000.

All 3 have done extremely well for me. Now it is time to return the love and be a little more dilligent about upkeep.
