Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Nice!

Looks good! I have a soft spot for those 60ths!

I don't see any scratches or dents though...

Almost no flaws on this when I bought it. Previous owner took very good care. Every oil change and mate nance is written in the owners manual at back. I wanted a 01XJ to have some fun with but after taking a look at this one, I'm torn about beating it up. Almost wanna buy another for fun and preserve this one. Inside and out, this XJ is in great condition. I'm still working on it and hope to post some more upgrades soon. Thanks for the compliments.

Well, last week I was on vacation. Had a great time at the beach with my family and it was also my first time with more than 3 days off in over 2 years. Had to buy 2 tires for my car, a vacuum pump for my truck, and a bunch of parts for my Jeep. Then I bought another Jeep... I'm running out of money and patience for having 3 vehicles.

The Jeep eluded me. Something is dropping the ASD relay and turning the fuel pump off. I don't have enough time to sit there and trace wires all day so it's at a shop where they can mess with it. Still strange it does it in drive only. I can make it die in neutral but it's still related to stalling from being in drive.

Ok so when you put it in drive it kills the fuel pump by engaging the ASD relay? How the hell did you finally figure that out.

Not necessarily because I'm putting it in drive but something somewhere drops the ASD which drops the fuel pump. Even once it dies sometimes the fuel pump won't run for 2 seconds when the key is in "run" so something is holding it from being energized. I've swapped all the relays I have with new ones. Multimeter and another set of hands helped me find that much.

Ok so it disengages the ASD? IDK how that relay works by the way. LOL! Just trying to learn so if I come across this I know more.

It's supposed to be for like if you get in a wreck or something. I'm not sure what powers that relay other than the 30 amp engine control fuse but something is dropping the coil of the relay and shutting it off while in drive and not reverse. Some kind of witchcraft.

This is from the 1993 - 1994 Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures Manual

Name of Code: Auto Shutdown Relay

When Monitored: With the ignition key on and the battery voltage greater then 10 volts.

Set Condition: An open or shorted condition is detected in the auto shutdown relay control circuit.

Theory of operation: The automatic shutdown relay (ASD) controls the 12 volts source to the fuel injectors, ignition coils, and the generator. The relay is located in the power distribution center. One side of the relay control coil is supplied with 12 volts when the ignition switch is turned to the "run" position. The circuit is completed when the other side of the relay coil is grounded by the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM grounds the relay when the ignition switch is in either the run or crank position and engine RPM is detected. If engine RPM is not detected the PCM will remove the ASD relay control circuit ground.

Possible Causes:
>Relay coil open or shorted
>Fused ignition switch output circuit open or shorted
>Auto Shutdown Relay control circuit open or shorted
>Inoperative circuit driver in powertrain control module

Since it is happening only when it is hot I was lead to believe that there is an inoperable circuit driver in the PCM. The fact it happens in drive is what is throwing me off though, it will idle for hours. Something does not like the heat from being under the hood and whatever variation/ vibration/ load from being in drive kills it.

It always has 12v on it so it's not the fuse. Something in the ECU is dropping the ground and losing the coil of the relay. I wonder if there is a bad wire in conjunction with the CPS circuit that tells the ECU how many RPM the engine is running at. I don't know.

But it's not giving a code.

Came out in 3rd place. Not good enough to take home the prize money, but still pretty good considering I was the only jeep, the rest were big full size pickups, and I had the smallest tires of any vehicle competing. Got stopped by a snapped axle shaft about 5 seconds after this picture.

Then went out and beat the jeep up some more on another trail, got a flat tire and the front end was making a lot of noises, so called it a night.

Looks just like the Crawl. Minus the Mountains, plus a bunch of rednecks.

Messed up some stuff on my XJ and realized a few changes that need to be made after wheeling in Harlan at the Crawl.

Met a new person from a local offroad jeep club facebook page. Spent two late evenings and half a Saturday helping him put a 3" lift on his XJ, plus the 2" spacers he already had in place. Got a slight bit cleaned up on my jeep, but didn't spend a lot of time on it, I broke my vice while trying to press out an axle u-joint

Cleaned up a broken tree branch as Deanna's. Sunday I got my 203/205 and other parts cleaned up. Justin texted me my drag link was ready and so was the spacer. Went and picked them up talked with him and saw his new shop. Picked up the transmission output seal and found out it was the wrong one. Right one should be hear today.

I blew a rear wheel brake cylinder on the 94 Friday night. I decided to do the brakes on Sunday. It was the job from HELL!!!!!!

It was hot and miserable. I had to move 3 vehicles to access the lift. I took the parking brake bracket off the cable and it was a major PITA to get back on (thank God my wife was there to help me). I then vowed to not make the same mistake on the other side. On the other side I broke one of the shoe retention springs. So I go find a parts 8.25 to rob a spring from but there is a nut on the drum, then the drum was stuck, so out came the hammer. Let's just say I won.

Then it started thundering so I had to move everything back inside the shop except my 88 which stayed outside.

After replacing the broken spring and bleeding the brakes I decided to rotate my tires since I already had two of them off. Well, I don't know what dummy thought it would be so cool to make wheels that make it impossible to line up the studs because of the mass of aluminum, but after getting pissed off (I did mention I was hot, tired and very sweaty, right?) and throwing around a tire and kicking and hitting some stuff, I raised the Jeep on the lift to eye level and nailed those tires on the studs.

I had to move the stuff back out of the shop once done to do a test drive. Then I had to put everything back in the shop.

The brake light on the dash is still on.

Then I got up this morning to find I left my windows down on the Jeep. After the test drive and parking it to go inside I forgot to roll them up. Thanks goodness it didn't rain.

I'll be looking to replacing these horrid drum brakes with discs for the next time.

Anyone know how to reset the brake light in the dash on a 1994 XJ?
